Order

Cornwal to wit
 
The Order of Francis Gregor and Thomas Hawkins Esquires Two of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace of and for the said County One whereof of the Quorum and both residing next unto the Limits of the Parish Church within the Parish of Probus in the said County made the Twenty Sixth Day of April in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and sixty four concerning a Male Bastard Child lately born in the Parish of Probus aforesaid of the Body of Grace Arscott Singlewoman
 
Whereas it hath appeared unto us the said Justices as well upon the Complaint of the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus as upon the Oath of the said Grace Arscott that She the said Grace Arscott on the fifth day of March last past was delivered of a Male Bastard Child within the Parish of Probus aforesaid and that the said Bastard Child is now chargeable to the said Parish of Probus and likely so to continue And further that John Pearce the younger of the Parish of Merther in the said County Gentleman did beget the said Bastard Child on the Body of the said Grace Arscott And Whereas the said John Pearce hath appeared before us in pursuance of our Notice for that Purpose but hath not shewed any sufficient cause why he the said John Pearce shall not be the reputed Father of the said Bastard Child We therefore upon the Examination of the Cause and Circumstance of the Premises as well upon the Oath of the said Grace Arscott as otherwise do hereby adjudge him the said John Pearce to be the reputed Father of the said Bastard Child.
 
And thereupon We do order as well for the better Relief of the said Parish of Probus as for the sustentation and Relief of the said Bastard Child that the said John Pearce shall and do forthwith upon Notice of this our Order pay or cause to be paid to the said Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus or some or one of them the Sum of Two Pounds and four shillings for and towards the lying of the said Grace Arscott and the Maintenance of the said Bastard Child to the Time of making this Our Order
 
And We do also hereby further Order that the said John Pearce shall likewise pay or cause to be paid to the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus for the time being or to some or one of them the Sum of One Shilling Weekly and every Week from this present time for the towards the Keeping Sustentation and Maintenance of the said Bastard Child for and during so long time as the saide Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the said Parish of Probus.
 
And We do further order that the said Grace Arscott shall also pay or cause to be paid to the said Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus for the time being or some or one of them the Sum of Six pence weekly and every week so long as the said Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the said Parish of Probus in case she shall not nurse and take care of the said Child herself

Bond

Know all Men by these presents that I, John Pearce the younger of the parish of Merther in the County of Cornwal Gentleman, am held and firmly Bound unto Matthew Truscott and William Roberts Junr Churchwardens and Edmond Paull and Hugh Hotten Overseers of the parish of Probus in the said County in Trust for the parishioners of the said parish, in Forty pounds of Good and Lawfull Money of Great Britain to be paid to the said Matthew Truscott, William Roberts, Edmond Paull, and Hugh Hotten, or their certain Attorney their Executors, Administrators or Assigns: To which paiment well and truly to be made I bind myself my Heirs Executors and Administrators and every of them jointly and severally firmly by these presents. Sealed with my Seal and dated the twentysixth day of April in the fourth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty four.
 
The Condition of this obligation is such that Whereas Grace Arscott of the said parish of Probus and County aforesaid single woman, hath by her Examination taken in writing and upon Oath before Thomas Hawkins and Francis Gregor Esqrs two of his Majestys Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of Cornwall declared that on the fifth day of last March she was delivered of a male Bastard Child within the said parish of Probus which Child is still Living and Chargeable to the said parish of Probus and so likely to continue and that the above Bounden John Pearce is the Father of the said Child, if therefore the said John Pearce his Executors or Administrators or either of them do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully and clearly indemnify and save harmless, as well the above named Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the said parish of Probus and their successors for the time being, as also all and singular the other parishioners and Inhabitants of the said parish of Probus which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being of and from all manner of Costs Taxes, Rates Assessments and Charges whatsoever for or by reason of the Birth, Education and maintenance of the said Child and of and from all actions, suits Troubles and other Charges and Demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same, that then this obligation to be void otherwise of force
