Mr Wm John’s Bond in Bastardy
 
Know all Men by these Presents that I William Johns of the Parish Lamorran Yeoman, in the County of Cornwall am held and firmly Bound unto Matthew Roberts and Thomas Gerrans Churchwardens, and Thomas Whitford, John Huddy and Melchizedec Hotten the Younger (in trust for the Parishioners of the parish of Probus as Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus in the said County) in the sum of Sixty Pounds of Good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid by the said William Johns his Executors Administrators and Assigns, unto the said Matthew Roberts, Thomas Gerrans, Thomas Whitford, John Huddy and Melchizedec Hotten or their certain Attorney, their Executors, Administrators and Assigns: To which payment, well and truly to be made, I bind myself, my Executor Administrators and Assigns, firmly by these Presents. Sealed with my seal and dated the first Day of August in the Forty third year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of the United Kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland King defender of the Faith, and in the Year of our Lord one Thousand eight Hundred and three
 
The Condition of this obligation is such, that whereas Joan Anear (now residing in the Parish of Probus) single woman, hath declared that she is with Child or Children, and that the said Child or Children is likely to be born a Bastard or Bastards, and to be chargeable to the said Parish of Probus, and that the abovebounden William Johns is the Father of the said Child or Children. If therefore the said William Johns, his Executors or Administrators, do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter, fully and clearly indemnify and save harmless, as well the abovenamed Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Probus, and their successors for the time being, as also all and singular the other parishioners and inhabitants of the said parish of Probus which now are, or hereafter shall be for the time being, of and from all manner of Costs, Taxes, Rates, Assessments, and charges whatsoever, for or by reason of the birth, education and maintenance of the said Child or Children, and of and from all actions, suits, troubles and other charges and demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same, that then this present obligation to be void otherwise of force
