CORNWALL to wit. To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Gwennap in the said County and to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Perranarworthal in the County aforesaid and to each and every of them.
 
Upon complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Gwennap aforesaid, in the said County unto Us, whose names are hereunto set, and seals affixed, being two of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace, and one of us of the Quorum, That Elizabeth READ singlewoman hath come to inhabit in the said Parish of Gwennap not having gained a legal settlement there; nor produced any Certificate owning her to be settled elsewhere; and that the said Elizabeth READ is likely to become chargeable to the said Parish of Gwennap We the said Justices upon due proof thereof, as well as upon examination of the said Elizabeth READ upon Oath, as otherwise, and likewise upon due consideration had of the premises, do adjudge the same to be true; and We do likewise adjudge that the lawful settlement of her the said Elizabeth READ is in the said Parish of Perranarworthal in the said County We do therefore require you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Gwennap or some or one of you, to convey the said Elizabeth Read from and out of your said Parish of Gwennap to the said Parish of Perranarworthal and her to deliver to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor there, or to some or one of them, together with this our Order, or a true Copy thereof, at the same time shewing to them the Original; and We do also hereby require you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Perranarworthal to receive and provide for her as an inhabitant of your Parish.
GIVEN under our hands and seals, the seventh day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty one.

Elizabeth Gray

Middlesex to wit. To Mr ADAMS and the Contractor for removing vagrants and To the Constable, Tythingman or other Officer of the Peace of the Parish of Saint John of Wapping in the said County of Middlesex ; and also to all Constables, and other Officers, whom it may concern, to remove and convey:
And to the Church Wardens, Chapel Wardens or Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Perranarworthal in the County of Cornwall or either of them, to receive and obey.
Whereas Elizabeth GRAY singlewoman was apprehended in the @ Parish of St John of Wapping as a Rogue and Vagabond, viz. wandering about the streets & lying in the open Air and upon examination of the said Elizabeth GRAY taken before me one of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of Middlesex upon Oath (which Examination is hereunto annexed) it doth appear, that the place of her last legal settlement is in the Parish of Perranarworthal in the County of Cornwall
These are therefore to require you the said Constable, Tythingman or other Officer of the Peace of the said Parish of Saint John of Wapping to convey the said Elizabeth GRAY to the Parish of Egham (St.Clement Danes crossed out) in the County of Surrey that being the first Parish in the next Precinct, through which she ought to pass in the direct way to the said Parish of Perranarworthal to which she is to be sent, and deliver her to the Constable or other Officer of such first Parish in such next Precinct, together with this Pass, and the Duplicate of the Examination of the said Elizabeth GRAY taking his Receipt for the same.
And the said Elizabeth GRAY is to be thence conveyed on in like manner to the said Parish of Perranarworthal there to be delivered to some of the Church Wardens or Overseers of the Poor of the same to be there provided for according to Law.
And you the said Church Wardens, Chapel Wardens and Overseers of the Poor, are hereby required to receive the said Person and provide for her as aforesaid. Given under my Hand and Seal the 28th day of November in the Year of our Lord 1785.

Middlesex. to wit The Examination of Elizabeth GRAY singlewoman a Rogue and Vagabond, taken on Oath before me one of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of Middlesex this Twenty eighth day of November in the Year of our Lord 1785 who on Oath saith, That she is the apprentice of James POLE a taylor in the Parish of Perranarworthal in the County of Cornwall with whom she hath lived as his apprentice for the space of Four Years or thereabouts and that she absconded from her said Master about five months ago And lastly saith she never was married … …. ….. …. ….. a subsequent settlement and that she hath been reduced to such Distress as to be obliged to wander about the streets and lay in the open Air.
