City and County of Bristol, to wit. To the Deputy Governor of the Corporation,
of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Assistants and Guardians of the Poor of the
City of BRISTOL, on behalf of the said Corporation, to Remove and Convey; and to
the Church or Chapel Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of
Perran Arworthal in the County of Cornwall to Receive
and Obey.
FORASMUCH as Complaint hath been made unto Us, whose Hands and Seals are
hereunto set, two of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace of and for the said
City and County Bristol (whereof one is of the Quorum) by the Deputy Governor of
the Corporation, of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Assistants and Guardians of
the Poor of the City of Bristol, That Margaret HILL singlewoman hath
come to inhabit in the Parish of Saint James within the said
City and County of Bristol, not having acquired or obtained a legal settlement
therein, and hath actually become and is
chargeable to the same Parish; -- WE the said Justices, upon Examination, do
adjudge the said Complaint and Premises to be true: AND we do further upon
Examination of the said Margaret HILL taken upon Oath as
otherwise, adjudge that the last Legal Settlement of the said Margaret
HILL was and is in the said Parish of Perran Arworthal
in the said County of Cornwall.
THESE ARE, THEREFORE, in his Majesty’s Name, to will and require you, the Deputy
Governor of the Corporation, of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Assistants and
Guardians of the Poor of the said City of Bristol, to remove and convey the said
Margaret HILL out of and from the said Parish, unto the said Parish of
Perran Arworthal and her to deliver unto the Church or
Chapel Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the same Parish or
to some or one of them, together with a Duplicate of this our Order, who are
hereby required to receive and provide for her according to
Law. And hereof you are not to fail.
GIVEN under our Hands and Seals, this tenth Day of
December in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and
Thirty.

WHEREAS it doth appear unto us, the Justices within named that Margaret
HILL the Pauper within ordered to be removed is at
present unable to travel, by reason of sickness and infirmity
We do therefore hereby suspend the Execution of the within Order of Removal,
until it shall appear unto Us that the same may safely be executed without
Danger. Given under our Hands this tenth Day of
December One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty.

Examination of Margaret HILL Spinster residing at Mrs FISH’s Charles Albert
Street in the Parish of Saint James in the City of Bristol taken this 6th day of
January one thousand eight hundred and thirty one by Mr John BUSH. This
Examinant stated that she was born in the Parish of Gwennap about five miles
from Falmouth some time in the year 1791 that she is the Daughter of ………….
………… Mary his Wife that her Father died …………………………………….
…………………………………. woolcomber of Helston in Cornwall ……………… resided with her Mother
till she was between ten and eleven years old when she was placed out as an
Apprentice with Thomas PASCOE a Farmer residing in the Parish of Perranarworthal
in the said County of Cornwall / her Fathers place of settlement acquired as she
believes by his having served an apprenticeship there with one Thomas LUGG a
Clothier / That she remained with the said Thomas PASCOE as his Apprentice
between five and six years when in consequence of a Lameness occasioned by a
chill taken in his service he allowed her to return to her Mother who then
resided with her Father in Law at Tiverton. That she in a great measure
maintained herself by her needle that she continued at Tiverton between two and
three years when her Father in law and Mother came to reside in Bristol that she
accompanied and lived with them that she in the first place went out as a plain
workwoman and afterward engaged herself with the late Mr HINGSTON of this City
Cabinet Maker as an Upholstress at six shillings a week which was afterwards
raised to ten shillings a week the wages she received from Mr HINGSTON’s son in
whose employ she continued till the Illness which at present confines her to her
Bed. That her Mother and Father in Law removed some time ago to a place called
Bowling Dike at Halifax in Yorkshire and live there at the present time. That
since her Father and Mother left Bristol

she has never rented a House of Ten pounds per annum nor done any other act to
her knowledge to gain a settlement in Bristol by service or otherwise and that
her Mother informed her that the Indentures by which she was bound to Thomas
PASCOE was left in his hands

Whereas it is now made appear unto Us the undersigned, being two of His
Majesty’s Justices of the Peace of and for the City and County of Bristol that
the said Margaret HILL died on the first day of December instant
AND WHEREAS it is duly proved to us upon Oath, that the sum of Nine
Pounds and two shillings hath been incurred by the Suspension of the
within Order of Removal; We do therefore order and direct the Church or Chapel
Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Perran Arworthal
in the County of Cornwall to which Parish the said
Margaret HILL was ordered to be removed, to pay the sum of Nine
Pounds and two shillings To Daniel SEXTON upon Demand,
Given under our Hands, the fifth Day of December
One Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty one.

To the CHURCHWARDENS and OVERSEERS of the Poor of the Parish of Saint Andrew
within the Borough of Plymouth, in the County of Devon, And to the Churchwardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Perran arworthal in the County of
Cornwall and to each and every of them.
DEVON to wit, Borough of Plymouth. Upon the complaint of the Churchwardens and
Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint Andrew in the Borough
aforesaid, unto us whose Names are hereunto set, and Seals affixes, being two of
His Majesty’s Justices of the Peace, of and for the said Borough, (whereof one
is of the Quorum,) That Elizabeth CORNISH, Singlewoman did lately come to
inhabit in the said Parish of Saint Andrew not having gained a legal settlement
there, and that the said Elizabeth CORNISH, is actually become chargeable to the
said Parish of Saint Andrew
We the said Justices, upon due proof made thereof, as well upon Oath, as
otherwise, and likewise upon due consideration had of the Premises, do adjudge
the same to be true, and we do likewise adjudge, that the lawful Settlement of
the said Elizabeth CORNISH is in the said Parish of Perran arworthal in the said
County of Cornwall.
We do therefore require you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
said Parish of Saint Andrew or some or one of you, to move and con… … said
Elizabeth CORNISH from and out of the said Parish of Saint Andrew to the said
Parish of Perran arworthal and her to deliver unto the Churchwardens and
Overseers of the Poor there, or to some or one of them, together with this our
Order, or a true copy thereof, at the same time shewing to them the Original;
and we do also hereby require you the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the
Poor of the said Parish of Perran arworthal to receive and provide for
her

CORNWALL to wit. At the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace of our Lord the
King, held at Bodmin in and for the said County, the Eighteenth Day of
October
in the second Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord William the Fourth by the
Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and Ireland King, Defender
of the Faith, and in the Year of our Lord 1831 Before William Peter FRANCIS,
Hearle RODD Esquires and others their Companions, Justices of our said Lord the
King, assigned to keep the Peace in and for the said County: And also to hear
and determine diverse Felonies, Trespasses and other Misdemeanors committed
within the said County.
UPON the continued Appeal of the Church-wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
Parish of Gwennap in the said County, from and against an Order bearing Date the
twenty seventh Day of January last past, under the Hands and Seals of John
Samuel ENYS Esquire and John SHEEPSHANKS Clerk two of his Majesty’s Justices of
the Peace of and for the said County for the Removal of Sophia the wife of
William FRANCIS and Jane their daughter aged about nine years from the
Parish of
Perranarworthal in the said County, to the said Parish of
Gwennap And upon
hearing what could be alleged and proved upon Oath on either Side, It is ordered
by this Court and this Court doth adjudge that the said Order be; and the same
is hereby reversed and discharged And that the Church-wardens and Overseers of
the Poor of the said Parish of Gwennap – some or one of them, do take and convey
the said Sophia FRANCIS and Jane FRANCIS from the said Parish of
Gwennap to the
said Parish of Perranarworthal and them deliver to the Church-wardens and
Overseers of the Poor there, some or one of them, who are hereby required to
receive them and provide for them as their own parishioners. And it is further
ordered, that the Church-wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of
Perranarworthal some or one of them do (on Notice of this Order) pay unto the
Church-wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of
Gwennap some or
one of them, the Sum of twelve pounds fifteen shillings and ten pence as and for
their Costs, in prosecuting the said Appeal, and Maintenance of the said Pauper.

the Parish of Saint Blazey in the County of
Cornwall and to the Churchwardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Perranarworthal in the County of
Cornwall and to each and every of them.
Upon the Complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish
of Saint Blazey aforesaid, in the said County of Cornwall, unto us whose Names
are hereunto set, and Seals affixed, being Two of of His Majesty’s Justices of
the Peace, in and for the said County of Cornwall and one of us of the Quorum,
that Joseph WILLIAMS Mary his wife and William their son an infant have come to
inhabit in the said Parish of Saint Blazey not having gained a legal Settlement
there, nor produced any Certificate owning them to be settled elsewhere; and the
said Joseph WILLIAMS Mary his wife and William their son are chargeable to the
said Parish of Saint Blazey - we the said Justices upon due proof thereof, as
well upon the Examination of the said Joseph WILLIAMS upon Oath, as otherwise,
and likewise upon due consideration had of the Premises, do adjudge the same to
be true; and we do adjudge that the lawful Settlement of them the said Joseph
WILLIAMS Mary his wife and William their son is in the said Parish of
Perranarworthal in the said County of Cornwall – We do therefore require you the
Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor, of the said Parish of
Saint Blazey or
some or one of you, to convey the said Joseph WILLIAMS Mary his wife and William
their son from and out of your said Parish of Saint Blazey to the said
Parish of
Perranarworthal and them to deliver to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the
Poor there, together with this our Order, or a true Copy thereof, at the same
time shewing to them the Original; and we do hereby require you the
Church-wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of
Perranarworthal
to receive and provide for them as Inhabitants of your Parish.
GIVEN UNDER OUR HANDS AND SEALS, the second Day of January in the
second Year of
the Reign of His Majesty, William the forth and in the Year of our Lord One
Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty two.
