Burial register entry for Betsy Oxnam, 1797

Betsy Oxnam Wife of the Revd. Willm. Oxnam Curate of Paul was on Thursday 23rd. of February 1797 suddenly seiz’d with premature
pains of Labour attended with strong Convulsion fits which, after she was delivered of an infant daughter, put a period to her existence at One o’clock on Friday morning:- she felt no previous indisposition, but was ?-- unexpectedly snatched away from her distracted husband and afflicted friends in the full enjoyment , a few hours before her confinement, of health & youth.
A striking lesson to inconsiderate Mortals of the shortness & uncertainty of human life. – She was born Novr. 8th 1776 – Married June 13th 1796 and departed this life Feby. 24th 1797 – Her remains are deposited in a Wall’d grave directly under the Vicar’s seat in the Chancel of Paul Church.
Pure was her mind, her manners soft and mild,
Religion own’d her for her Fav’rite child:
Impartial Truth her blameless worth commends,
As Wife, as Daughter and the best of friends:
Her countless virtues scarce began to rise,
E’re Heav’n recalled her to her native skies;
Where endless pleasures, everlasting peace,
And joys celestial, that will never cease
Reward her goodness in that blest abode
With saints, and Angels , and th’ Eternal God.
  Se---it? W. Oxnam once her most beloved husband and now her most disconsolate Widower – March 12th - 1797
