KNOW all men by these presents that we WILLIAM BRYANT
of the Borough of Fowey in the County of Cornwall
Carpenter and WILLIAM BRYANT of the parish of Luxulion
in the same County Yeoman, are held and firmly bound
unto HENRY MICHELL and WILLIAM KENDALL Churchwardens,
and WILLIAM SHEPHARD and MATTHEW TOMAN, Overseers of the
poor of the parish of Padstow in the said County (in
trust for the parishioners of the said Parish) in One
hundred pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain
to be paid to the said HENRY MICHELL WILLIAM KENDALL
WILLIAM SHEPHERD and MATTHEW TOMAN or their certain
Attorney their Exors. Administrators or Assigns. To
which payment well and truly to be made, we bind
ourselves and each of us, jointly and severally, and our
and each and every of our heirs executors and
administrators, firmly by these Presents. Sealed with
our seals, and dated the twenty ninth day of July in the
forty second year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord
George the Third of the United Kingdom of Great Britain
and Ireland and in the year of our Lord One thousand
eight hundred and two.
The Condition of this obligation is such that Whereas
ELIZABETH WILLIAMS of Padstow single woman hath in and
by her voluntary examination, taken in writing and upon
Oath before THOMAS RAWLINGS Esquire one of his Majesty’s
Justices of the peace in and for the said County of
Cornwall declared that she is with child, and that the
said Child is likely to be born a bastard, and to be
chargeable to the said Parish of Padstow, and that the
above bounden WILLIAM BRYANT Carpenter, is the father of
the said Child. If therefore the said WILLIAM BRYANT
Carpenter and WILLIAM BRYANT Yeoman or either of them,
their or either of their heirs, executors or
administrators, do and shall from time to time, and at
all times hereafter fully and clearly indemnify and save
harmless, as well the above named Churchwardens and
Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Padstow, and
their Successors for the time being as also all and
singular the other Parishioners and Inhabitants of the
said Parish of Padstow, which now are, or hereafter
shall be for the time being, of and from all manner of
costs, taxes, rates, assessments and charges whatsoever
for or by reason of the birth, education and maintenance
of the said Child, and of and from all actions, suits,
troubles and other charges, and demands whatsoever,
touching or concerning the same Then this present
obligation to be void otherwise of force.
