At the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace of our
Lord the King, held at Truro in and for the said County,
the fifth Day of April in the first Year of the Reign of
our Sovereign Lord William the fourth by the Grace of
GOD of the united Kingdom of Great Britain, and Ireland,
King, Defender of Faith, and in the Year of our Lord,
One Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty one Before WILLIAM
PETER RICHARD GULLY BENNET Esquires
and other their Companions Justices of our said Lord the
King, assigned to keep the Peace in and for the said
County; And also to hear and determine divers Felonies,
Tresspasses, and other Misdemeanors committed in the
said County.
UPON application made to this Court by the
Church-wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish
of Padstow in the said County, for Relief concerning a
male Bastard Child, born at Padstow aforesaid, on or
about the twenty eighth Day of November last past, of
the Body of JANE ROSEVEAR of the said parish singlewoman
which said Child is now chargeable to the said parish
And on Examination of her the said JANE ROSEVEAR on
Oath, and on due Consideration had of the Premises, it
appears to this Court, and this Court doth adjudge, that
THOMAS WILLIAMS of the said Parish (present here in
Court in his own proper Person,) is the Father of the
said Child. It is therefore ordered by this Court, that
the said THOMAS WILLIAMS do for the Time to come, on
Monday, weekly and every Week, for so long Time as the
said Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the said
Parish of Padstow pay unto the Church-wardens and
Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of Padstow some
or one of them for the Time being, the Sum of One
shilling and Eight pence for and towards the Relief of
the said parish and Maintainance of the said Bastard
Child. And it is also ordered, that the said JANE
ROSEVEAR for and towards the further Relief of the said
parish shall on Monday, weekly and every Week, so long
as the said Bastard Child shall be chargeable as
aforesaid (and she shall not nurture and keep the said
Child,) pay or cause to be paid unto the Church-wardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of Padstow
some or one of them, the Sum of ten pence
And it is further ordered, that the said THOMAS WILLIAMS
do (on Notice of this Order) pay unto the Church-wardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of Padstow
some or one of them, the Sum of four pounds and nine
shillings for and towards the Charges they have been at
in the lying in of the said JANE ROSEVEAR and other
Outgoings incident thereto, from the Birth of the said
Child to this Time.
