Know all men by these presents that I FRANCIS BREWER,
of the parish of Padstow in the County of Cornwall
Mariner, am held firmly Bound unto JOHN BONE, and JOHN
HORSWELL, Churchwardens, and HENRY MITCHELL and THOMAS
ROW, Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of Padstow
and County aforesaid (In Trust for the parishioners of
the said parish) in the sum of Fifty Pounds of good and
lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to the said
JOHN BOND, JOHN HORSWELL, HENRY MITCHELL and THOMAS RAW
or their certain Attorney their Executors and
Administrators and every of them by these presents
Sealed with my Seal and Dated this Eleventh day of
February in the thirtieth year of the Reign of our
Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of
Great Britain, France and Ireland King Defender of the
faith and so forth, and in the year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and ninety.
The Condition of this Obligation is such that whereas
ELIZABETH RETALACK of the parish of Padstow aforesaid
single woman hath in and by her Voluntary Oath before
HUMPHREY PRIDEAUX Esquire, one of his Majesty’s Justices
of the Peace in and for the Said County of Cornwall,
declared that she is with Child, or Children, and that
the said Child or Children are likely to be born a
Bastard or Bastards and to be chargeable to the said
parish of Padstow, and that the said within bounden
FRANCIS BREWER is the Father of the said Child or
Children. If therefore the said FRANCIS BREWER his Heirs
Executors or Administrators , do and shall from Time to
Time, and at all Times hereafter fully and clearly
Indemnify, and save harmless, as well the within named
Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said
parish of Padstow, and their successors for the time
being, as also all and singular the other Parishioners
and Inhabitants, of the said Parish of Padstow which now
are, or hereafter shall be for the time being, of and
from all manner of Costs, Taxes, Rates, assessments, and
Charges whatsoever for or by reason of the Birth,
Education and Maintainance of the said Child or
Children, and of and from all Actions, Suits, Troubles,
and other Charges and Demands whatsoever touching or
concerning the same, that then this present Obligation
to be void and of none Effect otherwise to be and
continue in full force and virtue.
