Know all Men by these presents that we THOMAS
NICHOLLS of the parish of Padstow in the County of
Cornwall Labourer and WILLIAM NICHOLLS of the parish of
Endellion in the said County Yeoman are held and firmly
bound to HENRY MITCHELL and JOHN HORSWELL Churchwardens
and WILLIAM KENDALL and THOMAS ROWE Overseers of the
Poor of this Parish of Padstow (in Trust for the
Parishioners of the said Parish) in Fifty Pounds of Good
and Lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid to the said
HENRY MITCHELL JOHN HORSWELL WILLIAM KENDALL and THOMAS
ROWE or one of them their or one of their certain
Attorneys Executors Administrators or Assigns for which
payment well and truly to be made We bind ourselves
jointly and severally our each and every of our Heirs
Executors and Administrators firmly by these presents.
Sealed with our Seals Dated the Twenty first day of
October in the Thirty Seventh year of the Reign of Our
Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of
Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the
Faith and so forth and in the year of Our Lord One
thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Seven.
The Condition of this Obligation is such: Whereas ANN
HARRY of the Parish of Padstow aforesaid Single Woman
hath in and by her Voluntary Examination taken in
writing and upon Oath before THOMAS RAWLINGS one of his
Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said
County of Cornwall Declared that she is with Child or
Children and that the said Child or Children are likely
to be born Bastard or Bastards and to be chargeable to
the said Parish of Padstow and the above bounden THOMAS
NICHOLLS is the Father of the said Child or Children NOW
the Condition of this Obligation is such that if the
said THOMAS NICHOLLS and WILLIAM NICHOLLS or either of
them or either of their Heirs Executors or
Administrators do and shall from time to time and at all
Times hereafter fully and clearly Indemnify and save
harmless as well the above named Churchwardens and
Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Padstow and
their Successors for the time being as also all and
singular the other Parishioners and Inhabitants of the
Parish of Padstow which now are or hereafter shall be
for the time being of and from all manner of Costs Taxes
Rates Assessments and Charges whatsoever For or by
reason or means of the Birth Maintenance and Education
of the said Child or Children that the said ANN HARRY
shall be Delivered of and from all Actions Suits
Troubles and other Charges and Demands whatsoever
touching and concerning the same then this present
Obligation to be void otherwise to be and remain in full
Force and Virtue.
