Know all Men by these Presents that I WILLIAM BEWES of the parish of Egloshaile in the County of Cornwall Labourer, am held and firmly bound to HENRY MITCHELL, CHARLES GUY, JOHN BLAKE and WILLIAM ANDREW the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Padstow in the said County of Cornwall, in One Hundred pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to the said HENRY MITCHELL, CHARLES GUY, JOHN BLAKE and WILLIAM ANDREW or one of them or to their Certain Attornies their Executors and Administrators and every of them firmly by these presents. Sealed with my Seal Dated this third Day of February in the Seventeenth year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of Our Lord one Thousand seven Hundred and seventy seven. Whereas by an Order made and Subscribed by JOHN WILLYAMS and J.O. WILLYAMS Esquires two of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace for the said County of Cornwall on or about the Ninth Day of January last past concerning a Female Bastard Child lately Born of the Body of ELIZABETH DOCTON of the said parish of Padstow a Single Woman in the parish of Padstow aforesaid and now Chargeable to the said Parish of Padstow, And Whereas upon Examination of the Cause and circumstances of the Premises as well upon the Oath of the said ELIZABETH DOCTON as Otherwise did thereby adjudge him the above bounden WILLIAM BEWES to be the reputed Father of the said Bastard Child and thereupon did order as well for the better relief of the said parish of Padstow as for the Sustentation and relief of the said Bastard Child that the above bounden WILLIAM BEWES should forthwith upon Notice of the said Order pay or Cause to be paid to the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of Padstow or to some or one of them the Sum of forty shillings for and towards the lying in of the said ELIZABETH DOCTON and the maintenance of the said Bastard Child to the Time of making said Order, and did thereby further Order that the above bounden WILLIAM BEWES should likewise pay or Cause to be paid to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of Padstow for the Time being or to some or one of them the sum of fourteen Pence weekly and every week from the Time of making of said Order for and towards the keeping sustentation and maintenance of the said Bastard Child for and during so long Time as the said Bastard Child should be Chargeable to the said parish of Padstow
 
The Condition of the above Obligation is such that if the above bounden WILLIAM BEWES his Heirs Executors or Administrators any or either of them shall and do well and truly pay or Cause to be paid unto the said HENRY MITCHELL, CHARLES GUY, JOHN BLAKE and WILLIAM ANDREW or to one of them their Executors Administrators or Successors the Churchwardens or Overseers for the time being the said sum of Two pounds towards the lying in Expences of the said ELIZABETH DOCTON, and also the said weekly sum of fourteen Pence for so long Time as the Female Bastard Child of the said ELIZABETH DOCTON shall be Chargeable to the said Parish, or Parishioners of Padstow, and that in all things According to the before mentioned order, then the above Obligation to be void and of none Effect, otherwise to be and remain in full force and Virtue.
