County of CORNWALL

The Order of RICHARD GULLY BENNET and HUMPHRY WILLYAMS Esquires two of His Majesty’s Justices of the Peace, in and for the said County, one whereof is of the Quorum, and both residing next unto the limits of the Parish Church within the Parish of Padstow in the said County, made the fifth day of March One Thousand Eight hundred and Thirty three concerning a female Bastard Child, lately born in the Parish of Padstow aforesaid, of the body of CHARITY COURTIS Single Woman.
 
WHEREAS it hath been duly made to appear unto us the said Justices, as well upon the complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the said Parish of Padstow as upon the Oath of the said CHARITY COURTIS that she the said CHARITY COURTIS on the Eleventh day of February last past was delivered of a female Bastard Child, at Padstow in the Parish of Padstow in the said County, and that the said Bastard Child is now chargeable to the said Parish of Padstow and likely so to continue; and further that JOHN TALLICK of the said Parish of Padstow in the said County of Cornwall did beget the said Bastard Child, on the body of her the said CHARITY COURTIS
 
AND WHEREAS the said JOHN TALLICK has not shewn any sufficient cause why he the said JOHN TALLICK shall not be the reputed Father of the said Bastard Child,
 
We, therefore, upon examination of the cause and circumstances of the premises, as well upon the Oath of the said CHARITY COURTIS as otherwise, do hereby adjudge him the said JOHN TALLICK to be the reputed Father of the said Bastard Child, And thereupon we do order, as well for the better relief of the said Parish of Padstow, as for the sustentation and relief of the said Bastard Child, that the said JOHN TALLICK shall and do forthwith, upon notice of this our Order, pay or cause to be paid, to the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the said Parish of Padstow or to some or one of them, the Sum of One Pound and ten shillings for and towards the reasonable charges and expenses incident to the said Birth, and for and towards the maintenance of the said Bastard Child, to the time of making this our Order; And whereas it further appeared unto us the said Justices, that the reasonable Costs of this our Order of Filiation, do amount to the sum of Six Shillings and Eight Pence We, the said Justices, do thereupon further order that the said JOHN TALLICK shall and do forthwith likewise pay the said last-mentioned sums of One pound and ten shillings and Six shillings and eight pence And we do also hereby further order, that the said JOHN TALLICK shall likewise pay or cause to be paid to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor, of the said Parish of Padstow for the time being, or to one or some of them, the Sum of Twenty pence weekly and every week from this present time, for and towards the keeping, sustentation, and maintenance of the said Bastard Child, for and during so long a time as the said Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the said Parish of Padstow And we do further order that the said CHARITY COURTIS shall also pay or cause to be paid, to the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor, of the said Parish of Padstow for the time being, or to some or one of them, the Sum of Ten pence weekly and every week, so long as the said Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the said Parish of Padstow in case she shall not nurse and take care of the said Child herself.
