Know all men by these presents that I WILLIAM KENT PETER of the Town of Padstow in the County of Cornwall Rope Maker am held and firmly bound to RICHARD BLAKE HELLYER and JOHN PEARSE Church wardens and THOMAS HAWKEY and JOHN KENDALL Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Padstow (In Trust for the Parishioners of the said Parish) in the sum of Fifty Pounds of Lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to the said RICHARD BLAKE HILLYER, JOHN PEARSE THOMAS HAWKEY and JOHN KENDALL their certain attorney, Executors Administrators or assigns, for which payment to be well and truly made I bind myself my Heirs, Executors and Administrators Firmly by these presents Sealed with my Seal dated the fourth day of March in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty eight.
 
Whereas BLANCH COURTENAY of the parish of Padstow aforesaid single woman was on or about the month of October last past delivered of a female Bastard child within the said parish of Padstow which said Bastard Child is likely to become chargeable to the said Parish. And whereas the said BLANCH COURTENAY hath declared and charged that the above bounden WILLIAM KENT PETER is the true Father of the Bastard Child. And whereas the above bounden WILLIAM KENT PETER hath undertaken and agreed to Indemnify and save harmless the before named Church Wardens and overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Padstow and their successors for the time being and also all and singular the other parishioners of the said parish of from and against all, costs charges and damages that shall or may happen or arise by reason or means of the said Bastard Child being born in the said parish of Padstow or of the said WILLIAM KENT PETER being the reputed Father thereof until it shall attain the age of Twenty one years or be sooner married.
 
NOW the Condition of this Obligation is such that if the said WILLIAM KENT PETER his Heirs executors or administrators do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully and clearly indemnify and save harmless as well the before named Church wardens and overseers of the poor of the said parish of Padstow and their successors for the time being, as also all and singular the other parishioners and inhabitants of the said parish of Padstow which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being, of and from all and all manner of costs, taxes, rates, assessments, and charges whatsoever for or by reason or means of the birth, maintenance and education of the said child until it shall attain to the age of Twenty one years, unless she be sooner married and of and from all actions, suits, troubles and other charges and demands whatsoever, touching or concerning the same, Then this obligation to be void otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue.
