Know all men by these presents that we THOMAS HORSWELL and WILLIAM HORSWELL the Elder both of the Parish of Padstow in the County of Cornwall Yeomen are held and firmly bound unto JOHN BONE CHARLES GUY HOOPER MARTYN and PHILLIP BUCKTHOUGHT Church-wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Padstow in the said County in trust for the Parishioners of the said Parish in the sum of Twenty pounds of good and lawful money of Great Brittain to be paid to the said JOHN BONE CHARLES GUY HOOPER MARTYN and PHILLIP BUCKTHOUGHT or their certain attorney their Executors Administrators or Assigns to which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and each of us jointly and severally and our and each and every of our Executors and Administrators firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated the tenth day of April in the thirty second year of the Reign of our Sovereign lord George the third of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety two

The Condition of this Obligation is such that whereas JOYCE CLEMAS of Padstow aforesaid single woman hath in and by her Voluntary Examination taken in writing and upon Oath before THOMAS VYVYAN Esqr. one of his Majesty’s Justices of the peace in and for the said County of Cornwall declared that she is with Child and that the said Child is likely to be born a Bastard and to be Chargeable to the said Parish of Padstow and that the above bounden THOMAS HORSWELL is the father of the said Child If therefore the said THOMAS HORSWELL or WILLIAM HORSWELL or either of them their or either of their Executors or administrators do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully and Clearly indemnify and save harmless as well the above named the Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Padstow and their successors for the time being as also all and singular the other Parishioners and inhabitants of the said Parish of Padstow which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being of and from all manner of cash taxes rates or Assessments and Charges whatsoever for or by reason of the birth education and maintainance of the said Child and of and from all actions suits troubles and other charges and demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same that then this Obligation to be Void Otherwise to continue in full force

Be it known to all persons whom it may concern that the within named WILLIAM HORSWELL is hereby discharged from the within Obligation and that the within named THOMAS HORSWELL is deemed and taken to be sufficient surety for the same and the said WILLIAM HORSWELL is hereby discharged from the said Obligation As witness our hands this tenth day of April One thousand seven hundred and ninety two.
