Cornwall. The order of Wrey IAns Esquire, and the
Reverend Edward Baynes Clerk two of his Majesty’s
Justices of the Peace in and for the said County, one
whereof is the Quorum, and both residing next unto the
Limits of the Parish Church within the Parish of
Moorwinstow in the said County, made the 13th day of
October in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight
hundred and eight concerning a Male Bastard Child,
lately born in the Parish of Moorwinstow aforesaid of
the Body of Grace Cornish Singlewoman;
Whereas it hath appeared unto us the said Justices, as
well upon the Complaint of the Churchwardens and
Overseers of the poor of the said parish of Moorwinstow
as upon the oath of the said Grace Cornish that she said
Grace Cornish on or about the 11th day of December in
the year one thousand eight hundred and five, was
delivered of a Male Bastard Child in the said Parish of Moorwinstow in the said County and that the said Bastard
Child is now chargeable to the said Parish of
Moorwinstow and likely so to continue, and further that
William Ham of the said Parish of Moorwinstow Carpenter,
did beget the said Bastard Child on the Body of her, the
said Grace Cornish. We therefore upon examination of the
Cause and Circumstance of the premises as well upon the
Oath of the said Grace Cornish as otherwise do hereby
adjudge the said William Ham to be the reputed father of
the said Bastard Child.
And we do also hereby further order that the said
William Ham shall pay or cause to be paid to the Churchwardens an Overseers of the poor of the said parish of Moorwinstow for the time being or to one or some of them
the Sum of one shilling and six pence weekly and every
week from this present Time for and towards the keeping
sustentation and maintenance of the said Bastard Child
for and during so long a time as the said Bastard Child
shall be chargeable to the said Parish of Moorwinstow.
And we do further order that the said Grace Cornish
shall pay or cause to be paid to the said Churchwardens
and Overseers of the poor of the said Parish of Moorwinstow for the time being or to some or one of them
the Sum of nine pence weekly and every week so long as
the said Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the said
Parish of Moorwinstow in case she shall not nurse and
take care of the said Child herself.
Given under our hand and Seals the day and year first
