St Austell 12th November 1802 Rev Sir I most sincerely lament the unfortunate situation of Michael Gummow and his family, but it is out of my power to alleviate the distress. I merely act in obedience to the ?, I have received from the Exchequer, the very last times, I ? the Offices of UnderSherriff, I received some degree of consensus from this court, on giving as a reason for my not excuse then ? that the ruin of a poor man and a large family must have been the inevitable consequence of having so done? it was not without much difficulty that I escaped? from being charged with the money myself, the language of the Court there was, that it was my duty to execute the process of the Court not to deliberate.
