The Will of Harry Hocken, dated 4 February 1887
1888 17th April Michaelstow
I Harry Hocken of Treveighan in the parish of Michaelstow in
the County of Cornwall Gentleman hereby revoke all Wills Codicils and other
Testamentary dispositions at any time heretofore made and declare this to be my
last Will and Testament. I give and bequeath unto my Nephews William Hocken and
John Hocken the sum of £200 each. I give and bequeath to my Niece Priscilla
Nichols the sum of £200. I give and bequeath to each of my Nieces Mary Jane
Paterson and Ada Fulcher the sum of £200. I give and bequeath to my Niece
Elizabeth Harriet Collins the Note of hand for £200 I now hold of her husband’s
together with the said sum and all Interest which may be due thereon at the time
of my decease. I give and bequeath to each of my Nephews John Hocken Knight and
Joseph Henry Knight and to my Niece Elizabeth Grigg the sum of £200 and I direct
that the said several Legacies be paid as soon as conveniently may be after my
decease. I give and bequeath to John Nichols the husband of my Niece Priscilla
Nichols and also to the said Priscilla Nichols for and during their joint lives
and the life of the survivor of them the Dwelling House and premises a
Treveighan aforesaid now in my occupation Together with all the Furniture Plate
Linen China and other things therein and thereupon except the Bedroom Furniture
Bed and Bedding which may be in the room now occupied by my housekeeper Jane
Prout at my decease I give and bequeath to the said Jane Prout absolutely the
said Bedroom Furniture Bed and Bedding And I also give unto her during her life
an Annuity of £20 payable half yearly and I charge the same upon my Freehold
Lands at Treveighan aforesaid, but in case the said Annuity shall be in arrear
and unpaid for the space of two calendar months after the same shall become due
and payable as aforesaid then and in that case I authorise and empower the said
Jane Prout to distrain for such arrears in upon my said Lands as Landlords have
power to distrain for and recover rents in arrear. I give and devise to Eleanor
Hocken the Widow of my late Brother John Hocken for her life the Dwelling house
and premises at Treveighan aforesaid which she now occupies And after her
decease I give and devise the same to the said Jane Prout during her life. All
the rest residue and remainder of my Real and Personal Estate and Effects money
and Securities for money whatsoever and wheresoever I give devise and bequeath
unto my Nephew Harry Hocken the Son of my said late Brother John Hocken his
heirs executors administrators and assigns absolutely and for ever And I appoint
the said Harry Hocken Executor of this my Will. In witness whereof I the said
Harry Hocken the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in
these two sheets of paper set my hand this fourth day of February one thousand
eight hundred and eighty seven

BE IT KNOWN, that at the date hereunder written, the last
Will and Testament (a Copy whereof is hereunto annexed) of Harry Hocken, late of
Treveighan in the parish of Michaelstow in the County of Cornwall Gentleman
deceased, who died on the 12th day of January 1888, at Treveighan aforesaid, and
who at the time of his death had a fixed place of abode at Treveighan aforesaid,
within the District of the County of Cornwall was proved and registered in the
District Registry attached to the Probate Division of Her Majesty’s High Court
of Justice, at Bodmin and that Administration of the personal estate of the said
deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to Harry Hocken (Son of testators
late brother John Hocken) the Nephew the sole Executor named in the said Will he
having been first sworn well and faithfully to administer the same.
(In far left-hand column) The Affidavit bears a Stamp of £60
And it is hereby certified that an Affidavit in verification of the Account of
the said estate has been delivered duly stamped wherein it is shown that the
gross value of the said estate amounts to £2135..15..0 and no more.
