The Will of Samson Vian , dated 6 May 1685

Sampson Vyan
In the name of God Amen I Samson Vian of the pish of St Mewan in the County of
Cornwall being sick and weake in body yet blessed by god perfect in memory doe make this my last
Will and testament the 6th Day May 1685 hereby revoking all former wills whatsoever
Inprimus I bequeath my soul unto the Almighty God that gave it me and my body unto Christian
Buriall and for that temporall Estate and that sublunary blessing which that god of his omnipotent
providence and infinite goodness hath bestowed upon me I give and bequeath in manner following
Inprimus I give and bequeath unto the poore of the pish of St Mewan the some of ten shillings Item I give
Unto John Vian my son: twenty shillings Item I give unto Samson Vian my son Eight pounds Item
I give unto Thomas Vian my son fifty pounds Item I give unto my son John
Vians
daughter twenty shillings Item I give unto my son Samson Vians eldest daughter twenty shillings Item
I give unto my son Sampsons younger daughter twenty shillings Item I give unto William Vian
my son the dwelling houses wherein I live with the remaining appurtenances thereunto belonging
And aportaining in maintaining Judith Vian my wife suffition meat drink and lodging and to pay her
forty shillings a yeare quarterly during her naturall life otherwise my will and pleasure is that the
said William Vian my son shall make the littell house Joyning with my halv a decent lodging
house for the said Judith Vian my wife with a garden at his proper cost and charge and to
pay her five pounds a yeare quarterly by even and Equall portions out of the said Estate during
her natural life Item I give unto the said Judith my wife for her use during her naturall life
the bed stead bed and furniture whereine I lye with one brass crock one brass pan and six pewter
dishes or platters and after the decease of her the said Judith the said goods to be and remain to the
proper use and disposing of the said William Vian my son
All the rest of my goods and chattels moveable and unmovable not given nor bequeathed I doe give
And bequeath unto the said William Vian my son and I doe hereby ordaine constitute and
Apoint the said William Vian my son to be my whole Executor desiring him to see this my
last will and testament to be performed in every particular accoring to my true intent
And meaning hearin and my will and pleasure is that the legacies herein given and bequeathed
to be paid within two yeares after my decease in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
seal the day and year first above written

By the holy contents of this book
You shall swear that cositing hereunto annexed contained the last will &
Testament of Sampson Vyan your father You shall well and truly perform
the contents of the same by paying his debts and legacies soe farr forth
as his goods and chattles doe or shall extend and the law shall guide
you that you shall likewise exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the Registry
of the Archdeaconry Court of Cornwall a true and perfect Inventory of all the
goods chattles and creditts of the said deced which shall come to your hands
possession or knowledge and yield and passe a just and true attempt thereupon
whenever you shall be thereunto lawfully required
