The Will of Robert Hancock,  dated 23 October 1820

This is the last will and testament of me Robert Hancock Senior of Tregondale in the Parish of Menheniot and County of Cornwall Yeoman who am weak but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do make the same in manner following. I give devise and bequeath unto my dear wife Jane the sum of ten pounds per annum by quarterly payments of lawful money of Great Britain. The first payment to begin and be made at the expiration of three calendar months next after my decease. And my will is that if my said wife lives with my executors then to be paid in manner aforesaid only the sum of five pounds annually. And in case my said wife declines living with my executors then to be paid on her departure the sum of twenty pounds in lieu of household furniture. And my will is that my freehold estate called Little Pengover in the Parish of Menheniot aforesaid now in my occupation shall be subject to the payment of the said annuity to my said wife and her assigns during her life, and in case of non-payment within twenty days after the same shall become due to have full power to distrain for the same in cases of distress for rent. Also I give and bequeath unto my son William the sum of thirty pounds. Also I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds. Also I give and bequeath unto my son Isaac the sum of one hundred and twenty pounds. Also I give and bequeath unto my son Robert the sum of five shillings. Also I give and bequeath unto my son Richard the sum of five shillings. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Hicks wife of George Hicks the sum of eighty nine pounds. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah the sum of one hundred pounds. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jane the sum of one hundred pounds. The said legacies to be paid and payable unto each and every of my said children except my son Isaac at the expiration of twelve calendar months more after my decease. And my will is that my executors shall provide for my son Isaac sufficient meat drink and clothes during his minority provided he lives with them during that period but not otherwise. And my said executors shall allow my said son Isaac three per cent per annum interest on the said sum of one hundred and twenty pounds until he attains the age of twenty one years when the legacy shall be paid. All the rest residue and remainder of my lands, tenements, premises, goods, chattles, estate and effects of what nature or kind soever after payment of my just debts, legacies hereby given, funeral expenses and the charge of proving this my will (subject to the annuity including the legacy in manner aforesaid to my said wife) I give devise and bequeath unto my two sons John Hancock and George Hancock equally to be divided between them share and share alike their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns. And I hereby nominate constitute and appoint them joint executors of this my last will and testament and guardians to my son Isaac during his minority hereby revoking all former wills by me hereto fore made and declare this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty.
 
Signed sealed published and declared by the said Robert Hancock the testator be and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses.
