MENHENIOT is a township, village and parish 3 miles south-east from Liskeard, having a station on the Cornwall railway, 1 mile from the village, in the Eastern division of the county, hundred of East, union and county district of Liskeard, rural deanery of East, Cornwall archdeaconry and diocese of Exeter. The church of St Mary is an ancient building in the Perpendicular style, has a chancel, vane, aisles and tower with spire. The register dates from the year 1553. The living is a vicarage, gross yearly value £1,150; the tithes are commuted at £1,134, including £34 payable from Coldrinnick in St Germans and 20 acres of glebe; the net value is about £800; the Dean and Chapter of Exeter are patrons, but pursuant to the directions of the donor (Courtenay, Archbishop of Canterbury, in 1831) must nominate one who is or has been a Fellow of Exeter College, Oxford; the Rev Richard Martin, M.A., formerly Fellow and Tutor of that College is the present Vicar. Here are two excellent National Schools for boys and girls, and an Infant school. Edmund Hambly, esq., is lord of the manor. The principal landowners are Charles Trelawney, esq., Rev P.F.Hony and S.T. Kekewich, esq, M.P. The soil is loamy with a stony bottom. The chief crops are grass, wheat, barley, oats, &c. The area is 6,997 acres: gross estimated rental £11.293; rateable value £9,956; and the population in 1871 was 2,205.
