MENHERRIOT is a township, village and parish,
two and a half miles from Liskeard, in the middle division, Hundred of
East and Union of Liskeard. The church of St Mary is an ancient stone
building, in the perpendicular style; has a tower and spire, a nave and
aisles. The living is a vicarage, value £1,150; the tithes are commuted
at £1,134, including £34 payable from Coldrinninck in St Germans, the
Den and Chapter of Exeter are patrons but pursuant to the directions of
the donor (Courtenay, Archbishop of Canterbury in 1381), must nominate
one who is or has been a Fellow of Exeter College; the Rev Richard
Martin M.A., is the present incumbent, and the Rev S.G. Harris is
curate. Here are national schools for boys and girls and an Infant
school. The population in 1851 was 1,944, the acreage 7,000. Joseph
Hambly Esq is Lord of the Manor.
