The Will of John Dennis, dated 5 May 1732

In the Name of God Amen this fiveth Day of May in the Year of our Lord God One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty Two I John Dennis of the parish of Marhamchurch in the County of Cornwall Yeoman being but weak of Body but of Sound & perfect mind and memory praised be Almighty God for the same do make and Declare this my last Will and Testament in Manner and form following That is to say I Give and Bequeath my Soul unto Almighty God who gave it me hopeing through the Merritts and Mediation of my dear redeemer Jesus Christ to Enjoy Eternal Happiness and my Body I Committ to the Earth from whence it was taken to be Buried in a decent Manner. Item I Give unto my said Wife Elizabeth Dennis my old Sparked Cow and my Old Gray Mare Item I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my Son John Dennis his Heirs and Assigns forever all that my Mesuage or Tenement with the Appurtances situate lying and being in Poughill Church Town aforesaid To have and to hold the said premises with the Appurtenances unto my said Son John Dennis his Heirs and Assigns forever Item I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my Son John Dennis his Heirs and Assigns forever all that one Field or Close of Land with the Apputenances called Wanford Parke within the parish of Thornbury in the County of Devon To have and to hold the said Field or Close of Land with the Apputenance unto my said son John Dennis his heirs and Assigns forever. Item I give unto my Two Sons William and Daniel Dennis and my Three Daughters Thomasine Mary and Elizabeth Dennis all my Right in a Messuage callled new Parkes in the parish of MarhamChurch. Item If Will Daman survive my Wife Elizabeth Dennis all the Remainder of my Right in that Messuage or Tenemant called World Downe I Give unto my son John Dennispaying his Brothers & Sisters (inserted above line) each of them (insert ends) fiveteen shillings per Year during William Daymans Life so many of them as shall be the liveing Item I Give unto my Wife Elizabeth Dennis the Use of all my Household Goods during her lifetime but so as she shall not Sell or Dispose of any of them and after her Decease I Give and Bequeath the said Household Goods unto my said Children to be Equally Divided but my further Will & meaning is that if my said Wife Elizabeth (inserted above) Dennis (insert ends) shall Marry after my Decease then my Household Goods presently to be divided equally between all my Children Item all the Rest of my Quick Goods and Implements of Husbandry I Give and Bequeath unto my Children which said Children I do hereby make Executors of this my last Will and Testament Renouncing all former Will or Wills by me at ant time or times heretofore Made and in Testimony that this is my last Will and Testament I have hereunto sett my hand and Seal the Day and Year first above written.

The before Written Will was Proved in Common Form the 28th April 1747 Before the Rever'd Mr Wm Waddon the Mr of Arts Official & Admon of the Goods etc of those Dec'd & of all things howsoever concerning those this Will was Granted to John Dennis the Son and one of the Executors therein named A power being reserved of Granting the like Admon to the Other Exec'rs therein named being first sworn ?-- ?ave--ng etc
The before written Will is a True Coppy Examined and Compared with the Original this 1st May 1747
