Settlement Papers for Catherine Symons, dated 1764 & 1765

Cornwall to wit. To the Church-Wardens and
Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Luxillion in the said County to
Remove and Convey
And to the Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of
Landlivery in the County aforesaid to Receive and Obey
WHEREAS Complaint hath been made by you the Church-Wardens and Overseers of the
Poor of the said Parish of Luxillion unto Us whose Hands and Seals are
hereunto set, two of His Majesty’s Justices of the Peace (whereof one is of the
Quorum) for the County aforesaid, That Catherine Symons Spinster
hath lately intruded herself into your said Parish of Luxillion
there to inhabit as a Parishioner contrary to the Laws relating to the
Settlement of the Poor, and is there like to become Chargeable if not
timely prevented: and whereas, upon due Examination and Enquiry made into the
Premises, as well upon the Oath of the said Catherine Symons as otherwise
it appears unto us, and we accordingly adjudge, That the said Catherine
Symons is like to become chargeable unto the said Parish of Luxillion
and that the last legal place of Settlement of the said Catherine Symons
is in the said Parish of Landlivery
These are therefore, in His Majesty’s Name, to order and require you the said
Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Luxillion
aforesaid, that you, or some of you, do forthwith remove and convey the said
Catherine Symons from your said Parish of Luxillion to the said
Parish of Landlivery, and her deliver to the Church-Wardens
and Overseers of the Poor there, or some or one of them, together with this our
Warrant or Order, or a true Copy hereof; whereby they are likewise required in
His Majesty’s Name and by Virtue of the Statutes in such Case made, forthwith to
receive the said Catherine Symons into their said Parish and
provide for her as their own Parishioner. Given under our Hands and
Seals, the Twelfth Day of July in the Year our Lord, one
Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty four

I John Maneer of the parish of Luxulion and County of
Cornwall, do covenant and agree with John Cole Clerk of the same parish and
County, that as my Aunt Catherine Symons hath had, and still hath pay from the
parish of Lanlivery, and belongs to that parish, and as she has for some time
past, and is still living with me, I promise in case she should fall ill, and
could not be removed, she shall not be any charge to the parish of Luxulion, and
I promise further that should she die while with me I will be at all the expence
in burying her.

We the Minister & Principal Inhabitants of the Parish of
Lanlivery do certify the Parishioners of the Luxulion [sic] that we acknowledge
Catherine Symonds to be a Person legally belonging to our said Parish of
Lanlivery & that we will receive her as such whenever she shall become
chargeable or defray any expences the Parish of Luxulion may be at concerning
her
