Settlement Paper for Thomas & Mary Philp, dated 6 May 1741

To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the parish of Luxulian to Execute, and to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint Mabyn to receive and observe

Cornwall (To wit). Whereas Complaint is made unto us (being two of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace and Quorum in and for the said County and of this Division) by you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Luxulian that Thomas Philp and Mary his wife are Inhabiting in your said Parish of Luxulian to gain their Settlement therein, not bringing any Certificate owning themselves settled, nor by any way qualified to gain their settlement, and are become chargeable to your Parish of Luxulian contrary to the Statute in that case made.
And we the said Justices of the Peace having now examined the said Thomas Philp on his oath touching the place of his lawfull Settlement; and also the Overseers of the Poor of Luxulian aforesaid touching the said Complaint, do Hereby adjudge that the said Thomas Philp and Mary his wife are become chargeable to the said Parish of Luxulian, and that the last place of their lawfull Settlement is in the Parish of Saint Mabyn aforesaid. These are therefore to require you the said Churchwardens or Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Luxulian or some or one of you forthwith to convey the said Thomas Philp and Mary his wife to the Parish of Saint Mabyn aforesaid and deliver them to the Churchwardens or Overseers of the Poor thereof or to either of them (together with this order or a true copy hereof) who are hereby required to receive them and provide for them as their Parishioners as the Law in that case doth direct: of which you are not to fail under the penalty of five pounds. Given under our hands and Seals at Saint Austle the sixth day of May in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred and forty one
