St Pinnock Parish Page
Settlement Paper for Ann Hawkins, dated 8 January 1749
Cornwall To wit. To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the
Poor of the Parish of St Pinnock and also to the Churchwardens and Overseers of
the Poor of the Parish of Luxsillyon in the Sd County
Whereas Complaint hath been made by you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the
Poor of the Parish of St Pinnock aforesaid unto us Whose Hands and Seals are
hereunto Set two of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace one of which is of the
Quorum of and for the Sd County That Ann Hawkins Single Woman hath Lately
Intruded herself into your Sd Parish of St Pinnock there to Inhabit as a
Parishioner Contrary to the Laws relating to the Settlement of the Poor and is
there likely to become Chargeable if not timely Prevented and Whereas upon due
Examination and Enquiry made into the Premises by us the Said Justices upon Oath
of the said Ann Hawkins it appears unto us and we accordingly adjudge that the
said Ann Hawkins is there likely to become Chargeable and that her last Legal
Place of Settlement was in the said Parish of Luxsillyon
These are therefore in his Majesty’s Name to Order and Require you the said
Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of St Pinnock aforesaid
that you or some of you do forthwith remove and convey the said Ann Hawkins from
your said parish of St Pinnock to the Parish of Luxsillyon aforesaid and her
deliver to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor there or some or one of
them together with this our Warrant or Order or a True Copy hereof Whereby they
are also required in his Majesty’s Name and by Virtue of the Statutes in such
case made forthwith to receive the said Ann Hawkins into their said parish of
Luxsillyon And provide for her as their own Parishioner. Given under our Hands
and Seals this 8th January 1747
