Bond concerning a child of Elizabeth Roskilly
Bond given by Mr BERSEY to indemnify
the Parish of Lostwithiel
8th May 1811.

Know All Men by these presents that We WILLIAM
BERSEY of the parish of Lanlivery in the County of
Cornwall yeoman and WILLIAM BERSEY of the parish of
Lanhydrock in the same County Gardiner are held and
firmly bound unto JOHN LYTTLETON and JOHN PARKIN
Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the parish of
Lostwithiel in the said County (in trust for the
parishioners of the said parish) in the sum of One
Hundred Pounds of good and lawful money of great Britain
to be paid to the said John Lyttleton and John Parkin or
their certain attorney their executors administrators or
assigns to which payment well and truly to be made we
bind ourselves and each of us jointly and severally and
our and each and every of our heirs executors and
administrators firmly by these presents sealed with our
seals dated the eight day of May in the fifty
first year of the reign of our sovereign Lord George the
third of the United Kingdom of great Britain and Ireland
King defender of the faith and so forth and in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eleven
The Condition of this obligation is such that to
whereas Elizabeth Roskilly of the parish of Lanhydrock
aforesaid widow hath in and by her voluntary examination
taken in writing and upon oath before Nevel Norway
esquire one of his majesty’s justices of the peace in
and for the borough of Lostwithiell in the said County
of Cornwall declared she is with child and that the said
child is likely to be born a bastard and to chargeable
to the said parish of Lostwithiell and that the above
bounden William Bersey of Lanhydrock aforesaid Gardiner
is the father of the said child is therefore the
said William Bersey of Lanliverly and the said William
Bersey of Lanhydrock or either of them their or either
of their heirs executors or administrators do and shall
from time to time and at all times hereafter fully and
clearly indemnify and save ?armless as well the above
named churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the
said parish of Lostwithiell and their sucessors for the
time being as also all and singular the other
parishioners and inhabitants of the said parish of
Lostwithiell which now are or hereafter shall be for the
time being

being of and from all manner of costs taxes rates
assessments and charges whatsoever for or by reason of
the birth education and maintainance of the said child
and of and from all actions suits troubles and other
charges and demands whatsoever touching or concerning
the same then this present obligation to be void
or otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue
