Will of John Wilkey, dated 28 October
1747
I John Wilkey of ye Borough of Liskeard in County of
Cornwall Velmonger being this Twenty Eighth day of ye Eighth Mounth
Called October in the year of our Lord 1747. of a Sound mind and memory
for which I desire to be Thinkfull to God but in for present but
orddernery State of Health and Considering the uncertainty of this Life
do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form
following. In ye fost pleces (plaes?) I Commit my Soul into the hands of
ye Almighty having a trust and hoop begot in my mind that through his
Son Jesus Christ my Redeemer I Shall be accepted of him
Item my body I leave to be Decently Buried according as my after name
Exector. Shall think fitt.
Item I Give to my Brother Edward Wilkey of Kelington two Guineas of Gold
to be pead him at on years End after my Deces.
Item I Give to my Sister Elizabeth Hingston of Penryn and her Husband my
Brother Law two Guineas of Gold Ech which is four Guineas to be pead at
on years end after my Deceas
Item I Give to my Cusin John Wilkey the son of my Brother Edward Wilkey
on Hundred Pounds of Lawfull money and if he keep in Socieaty with ye
pepol Caled Quakears which is my desire and In the Judgment of my after
names Trustes and Execute (ors?) lives pretey orderly then furefty
pounds of ye above houndred Shall be pead him when he shall attean to
the age of Twenty five and the other half when he shall be Thirty years
of age_ But if he should prove Idle and Extravagant and leave friends
Then my Will and desire is that he have but Twenty Pounds pead him at
the age of Twenty five and Twenty Pounds pead him at the age of Thirty
five and when he attean to the age of fivfly Twenty Pounds meor, and
when he shall be Sixty years of age Twenty Pounds Moer, and if he shall
live before he is Seventy years that he be pead Twenty pounds Meor: and
if he should Chanch to dye befour the money is pead him then my will and
desire is that the money left be divided amongst them of my Brothers
Chaldren or Theor Children as shall prove Indesteras and if the money
make any thing at Antrest it is my desire they shall have that allso.
Item I Give unto Josias Wilkey the son of my Decesed Brother Josias
Wilkey when living on Hundred pounds of Lawfull money to be pead at a
full years End after my Deces into of my Brother in Law Andrew Hingston
of Penryn hom I desire to put it out to Intrest and I lickways Request
him to take the Child with him and Reair him up and if ye. Intrest is
not So fechent to menteain the Child I order that my Executr. pay him
whot meor money he shall think feet to have = and if ye. Child grow up
to be a souber young man then my desire is that his unkel pay him his
hundred pound so suen as he Shell think him Capabel of puling on Besness
but if ye. Contrey he prue Idle and Extravageant then my will is that he
be pead his houndred pound Jest and no outherwise then I have ordered
John Wilkey to be pead his houndred pound In Ceas he prove Idle and
Extravagant
Item I Give unto Elizabeth Wilkey ye. daughter of my Brother Edward
Wilkey five pounds to pead her when she shall be Twenty one years of
age.
Item I Give to Edward ye. Son of my Brother Edward Wilkey to be pead him
when he is Twenty one years of age.
Item I Give onto Mary Wilkey ye. Daughter of my Decsed Brother Josias
Wilkey five pounds to be pead her at the age of Twenty one.
Item I Give unto Mary Allen ye. wife of Joseph Allen on Guinea of Gold
to be pead at Six mounths after my Desecs.
Item I Give to Rebekah Stevens who ons lived with us as an apprinties
ten shillings and Sis pens to be pead at Six mounths End after my Desces.
Item I Give to my Cousen Josias Wilkey of Plymouth ten Shillings and Six
pens to be Sent him as suen as posable after my Desces.
Item I Give Eedua(?) Pearse Weddow, and to Darkes Short Weddow and to
Perse la (Persela?) Debel and to Peachery Couttel and Keatron Knight all
of this Townd of Liskeard five Shillings Ech to be pead a mounth after
my desces.
All the Residue and Remainder of my Goods and Chattles I Give and
Bequeath unto my Dear mother Elizabeth Wilkey who I Constitute and
appoint the Sole Exeutx. of this my last will and Testament. I desire
and Request my Brother Andrew Hingston and his wife to be my Tresteas
and See my will in Every Respect fullfeld as Wittness my Hand the day
and year above written.

May 1748 by us

Wilkey deced was Proved in common Forme the 20th April 1748 Before the
Reverend Mr Willm. Waddon Clk Mr of Arts Offical er. and admion of the
Goods er. of the Said Deced and of all things howsoever concerning the
Said Will was was Granted to the Exectic. Therein named / first
affirming et. / Saveing et. /
