Will of Samuell Govet(t), dated 26 December 1741

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN The Twenty Sixth day of December One Thousand Seven Hundred Fortyone 1741. I Samuell Govet of the parish of Liskeard in the County of Cornwall yeoman being Sick of Body but thanks be given to God of perfect and Sound memory doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following viz.
First I Bequeath my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God my maker hopeing that through the meritorious Death and Passion of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer to Receive free pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins, and as for my Body when Dead to be buried in Decent Christian Burriall in the parish Chur(c)hyard of St Keyne (hoping at general Resurrection to Receive the same again by the mighty power of God) at the Discretion of my Executrix hereafter nominated.
ITEM I Give and Beqeath to my Son James Govet my Stock and Goods on Polmena that I have left with him as by the Inventory of the Same taken by me will appear together with the money due to me for Corn and otherwise as by his accts. (accounts) will appear on Condition he pay and discharge the Rent and arrears of rent due from me to madam Jane Johnson and pay and discharge ten pounds that he is bound jointly with me on a note and likewise paying for me or to my Executrix within one year after my decease another Sum of ten Pounds. ITEM I Give Bequeath and Devise my Lands in Trewidland to Mary my wife with full power to Sell and dispose of the Same for the help payment of my just Debts and likewise Itm (ITEM) I Give and Bequeth unto Mary my wife all my Stock and Goods Quick and Dead Moveable and Immoveable on Trewidland and Causland for and Towards the payment of my Just debts and likewise for the Better payment of my Just debts and for the maintenance of Mary my wife after my decease Itm (ITEM) I give and Bequeath my Chattel Estate in Trewidland known by the name of Couch’s Tenement, Together with my Estate or Tenement in Causeland for and during her natural life, and after her decease Item I Give and Bequeath my Chattel Estate in Trewidland aforesaid unto James Govet my Son for the Remainder of the Term then to come and unexpired of his natural life and likewise my Estate and Tenement in Causeland for and during his natural life and after his decease Itm (ITEM) I give Bequeath and devise my Lands in Causeland to Mary Govet my Grandaughter and Eldest Daughter of my Son James Govet aforesaid together with the Several parts that are held by Several Leases on Causeland aforesaid for and dureing her natural life and after her decease the Lands in Causeland aforesaid I give Bequeath and Devise to the Heir Male Begotten Lawfully by my Son James Govet aforesaid and his heires forever together with the Remainder of the Several Terms Then to come and unexpired of the said Several Leases or either of them And for want of Such issue male then the aforesaid Lands to be to the said Mary Govet’s (my Grandaughter) right and Lawfull Heires forever together with the remainder of the Said Several Terms of Leases or either of them. All the Rest of my Goods Chattels, Effects, moneys due and what kind or nature soever and in whose Hand or Custody soever they may be had and found and not before Given and Bequeathed I Give to Mary my Beloved wife aforesaid and make her my whole and Sole Executrix of this my last will and Testament she paying and performing my will as aforesaid and if my Son neglect to pay and perform out of the stock and Goods aforesaid given him I give my wife full power after her decease to set Couch’s Tenemant aforesaid for Such Term or number of years as shall pay the said Several Sums aforesaid with the Charges thereof if any be before it shall come to him the said James Govet my son aforesaid. IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto put my Hand and Seal Revokeing & disallowing all former will or Wills by me made or Bequeathed, Ratifieing and allowing this my Last Will and Testament and no other the day and year above writtens Signed Sealed Published and declared

The Before written Will of the abovesaid Samuel Govett was Proved in common Forme Before the Reverend Mr William Waddon Clk Mr. of Arts Official er. The 6th. Novr. 1747, and admion of the Goods er. of the Said Deced and of all things howsoever concerning the Said Will was Granted to the Executrix therein named (being first Sworne er./ Saveing er.)
Sum total of the Inventy. Exhibitors is 31: 5: 0 (£931. 5 shillings. zero pennies)
The before written Will of the Said Samuel Govett is a true Copy, Examined & Compared with the Original this 7th. Novr. 1747 by Us
