Know all Men by their Presents that We Mary LEIGH Widdow &
William LEIGH Yeoman her Son in the Parish of Lawhitton, in the County of
Cornwall, am held & firmly Bound, Unto William SYMONS Churchwarden, & Digory
MARTIN & Edward BRENDON Junr Overseers of the Poor of the Said Parish of
Lawhitton in the County Afforesd their Successor and Assigns in the full Sum of
One Hundred Pounds of Lawfull Money of Great Britain to be paid to the Said
William SYMONS Digory MARTIN & Edward BRENDON Junr or One of them, their or One
of their Successors or Assigns, Churchwardens or Overseers of the Poor of the
said Parish of Lawhitton for the time Being, for the true Payment Whereof We do
Bind Ourselves Our Heirs Execrs and Administrators firmly by these Presents
Seald With Our Seals Dated this Ninetheenth Day of January in the Eighteenth
Year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord King George the third & in the Year of
Our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred & Seventy Eight.
Whereas Susannah HOLMON Singlewoman of the Said Parish of Lawhitton is now
Pregnant With One or More Bastard Child or Children, hath by her Examination
Upon Oath Sworn Richard LEIGH of the Said Parish, Father, Before Phillip VYVYAN
Esqr. One of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in & for the Said County of
Cornwall on the Twenty fourth Day of November One Thousand Seven Hundred &
Seventy Seven, Which When Born Will Likely Become Chargeable to the Said Parish
of Lawhitton and Security Being Demanded By the above Nam’d Churchwarden &
Overseers of the Poor the above Bound Mary LEIGH Widdow and William LEIGH her
Son hath agreed to Indemnify the Said Parish of Lawhitton of and from all manner
of Cost’s Charge’s and Expence’s Which may be Occasioned by the Means thereof
Now the Condition of the above written Obligation is such that if the Said Mary
LEIGH Widdow & William LEIGH her Son they or Either of them, they or Either of
their Heirs Exectrs Administrs or Assigns Do and Shall from time to time and at
all times hereafter aquitt, free and Discharge, or Otherwise well & Sufficiently
save keep harmless and Indemnified as Well the above Named William SYMONS Digory
MARTIN & Edward BRENDON Junr & Each & Every of them their & Each & Every of
their Successors Churchwardens & Overseers of the Poor of the Said Parish of
Lawhitton for the time Being as also all the Inhabitants and Parishioners of the
Same Which Now are or hereinafter Shall Be and Every of them their and Every of
their Goods & Chattles Lands and tenements of and from all Costs Charges and
Expences Whatsoever which Shall or May at any time or times hereafter arise,
happen or accrue unto or be impose’d, Assessed, or Charged on them the Said
William SYMONS Digory MARTIN & Edward BRENDON Junr or any or Either of them,
their or any or Either of their Successors Churchwardens & Overseers of the Poor
of the Said Parish of Lawhitton for the time Being as also all the Inhabitants
and Parishioners of the Same Which Now are or hereafter Shall Be and Every of
them their and Every of their Goods and Chattles Lands and tenements of and from
all Costs Charges and Expences Whatsoever which Shall or May at any time or
times hereafter arise, happen or accrue unto or be impos’d, Assessed, or Charged
on them the said William SYMONS Digory Martin & Edward BRENDON Junr or any or
Either of them, their or any of their Sussessors Churchwardens & Overseers of
the Poor or The Inhabitants and Parishioners of the Said Parish of Lawhitton for
the time Being, for or by Reason or Mean’s of the Said Susannah HOLMON Being
With Child as Affors’d for or by Reason or Mean’s of the Birth Mentainance
Education or Bringing up of Such Child or Children With Which She the Said
Susannah HOLMON is now Pregnant and Shall Be Delivered of or anywise howsoever
Then the above Written Obligation is to be Void and of no Affectt Otherwise to
Remain and be in full force Power & Virtue.
