In the name of God Amen. Howard Seccombe of Helston within the Parish of Lanteglos by Camelford in the County of Cornwall. Yeoman. Being in perfect health and of sound mind memory and understanding; but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following / to wit / First I do order and direct that all such debts as I shall justly owe at the time of my decease, and my funeral charges and expenses be in the first place be paid and discharged by my executor herein after named. I give unto my kind and loving wife in order to begin housekeeping, The bed performed in the kitchen chamber, the little brass crock, two pewter dishes and two pewter plates, and my second best nilch cow, to be delivered her immediately after my funeral, and the sum of two Guineas to be paid her within one month next after my decease.
I give unto my eldest daughter Catherine the sum of three hundred pounds to be paid her within twelve months next after my decease without interest. And I also give unto my said daughter as a support and maintenance for her until she shall receive the said sum of three hundred pounds, the sum of two Guineas, to be paid within one month next after my decease. I give unto my other daughter Ann the sum of three Hundred Pounds, to be paid her within two years next after my decease, without interest. And I also give unto my said daughter Ann the sum of five pounds to be paid her within two months next after my death as a support until she shall receive the said three hundred pounds. All which said legacies bequests and sums of money I do charge my estate called Tresley, lying in the parish of Davidstow and parcel of the customary land of the Manor of Tintagele (and which my friend Mr George Martyn stands tenant for) with the payment thereof, and I do order and direct that the said George Martyn or his heirs, being tenant or tenants of and for my said estate of Trewley, do stand and continue tenant or tenants for the same until the aforesaid legacies become one and payable. And then in case my executor herein after named shall not choose to pay to my said daughters aforesaid legacies then I do order the said George Martyn or his heirs, being tenant or tenants of and for the same to sell the same estate immediately, and the money arising there from to pay the aforesaid legacies given to my said daughters by this my will, and all costs and charges and expenses relating thereto, and if any surplus shall then be, to pay the same to my executor hereinafter named.
I give unto my sister Ann Wilcock, One Guinea to be paid her by my executor hereinafter named within six months next after my decease.
All the rest of my goods and chattels, Land and tenements, Hereditaments and Premises and all other my effects of what Nature, kind or sort so ever, I give devise and bequeath unto my only son Edward Sercombe for his only use and benefits. And I do hereby nominate and appoint him whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto in my hand and seal this twelfth 12th day of March One Thousand Seven Hundred Seventy One
Signed sealed published and declared by the testator within mentioned as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who severally subscribed our names as witnesses hereto in the presence of the said testator and of each other
