Know all Men by these Presents That
We John Roach Shoemaker of the parish of Lantegloss by
Fowey and John Roach & Thomas Roach both of the Parish
of Luxilian and County of Cornwall, Tinners are held and
firmly bound unto William Pease and Thomas May
Churchwardens, And William Colliver and Thomas Arthur
Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Lantegloss aforesd in the said County (In
Trust for the Parishioners of the said Parish) In the
full sum of Fifty Pounds of good and lawfull money of
great Britain to be paid to the said Churchwardens and
Overseers of the Poor aforesaid, their Executrs Administrators or Assigns
To Which Payment well and truely to be made We bind
Ourselves and Each of us joyntly and severally, and our
and each of Our Executrs
Adminrs and
Assigns firmly by these Presents Sealed with our Seals
and dated this twenty eighth Day of September in the 24th year of the Reign of our
Lord George the Third King &ec
And in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred
and Eighty four.
The Condition of the above Obligation is such that
whereas Susanna Wyatt Widow hath in and by her voluntary
Examination taken in Writing and upon Oath before Joshua
Horwell Clerk One of his majesty’s Justices of the Peace
of the said County of Cornwall declared that she is with
child and that the said child is likely to be born a
Bastard and to be chargeable to the said Parish of
Lantegloss and that the above bounden John Roach
shoemaker is the father of the said child. If therefore
the said John Roach shoemaker the said John Roach &
Tomas Roach Tinners or either of them their heirs,
Executrs, Administratrs or Assigns do and shall from
Time to Time And at all Times hereafter fully and
clearly indemnify and save harmless as well the Above
named Church Wardens & Overseers of the Poor of the said
Parish of Lantegloss & their Successors for the Time
being As also all and singular the other Parishioners
and Inhabitants of the said Parish of Lantegloss which
are now or hereafter (folded page corner) for the
Time being of and from all manner of Costs, Taxes Rates
(folded page corner) And Charges whatsoever for
and by Reason of the Birth Maintenance and Education of
the said Child and of and from all Actions, Suits
Troubles and Other Charges and Demands whatsoever
touching or concerning the same That then this present
Obligation shall be void and of none Effect Otherwise of
full Force and Virtue.
