Will of John Trewbodye, dated 22
September 1561
In the name of godd amen the thirde
daye of June yn the yere of our lorde godde a thowsand
Fyve hundreth thre score & one [1561] & yn the yere of
the Raigne of our Soveraiyne ladye Elisabeth by the
grace of godde of Englande France & Irlande
queene deffender of the faith &n the iijd [3rd] I John
TREWBODYE of Castell in the pish of Lanlyvrye yn the
countey of Cornewayel thelder gentle man being of pfytt
memorye & good Remembrans laude & prayse be unto godde
howbehitt Sicke of Bodye & also considering the fraylnes
of this transitorye worlde knowing farder thatt as deth
ys sure & stay [certain] to all psons so ys the howre
unstay Make this my testamt & Last Will yn manr & forme
following.
Fyrst I geve & bequeth my sawle unto almightye god my
maker & Redemr & my body to holy turf to be buryed yn
the pish church of Lanlyrye
Item I geve & bequeth to the church of Lanlyrye For my
burels & to be prayed for vjs viijd [6 shillings 8
pence]
Itm I geve & bequeth to the vicar or curat of Lanlyrye
for my forgotyn tithes iijs [3 shillings]
Itm I geve to the church of Seint Clere vjs viijd [6
shillings 8 pence]
Itm I geve & bequeth to the church of Seint Bartholomew
of Lostwithiel ijs [2 shillings]
Itm I geve & bequeth to my eldist sone & heir John
TRUBODYE & to his heires of his bodye lawfully begotyn
all my meas[es] lands Tents Rents Revroons [reversions]
& svis [services] wth all there apprtenncs sett lyeng &
being yn Trevorrecke Pennant
Fesne wth Trengale wth the woode belonging to the same
Lamaron yn the pish of Northhill Trevosowe yn the pish
of Pedyrwyn
Itm my will ys thatt Walter TRUBODYE Richard TRUBODYE &
John TRUBODYE my sones or any of them or ther heyr male
which shall chanc to be yn possesson of my lands & tents
wth ther apprtenncs in Quarell yn the pish of Seint
Melyn [St. Mellion] yn the counteye afforesaid shall
yerelye bear unto my eldst sone John TRUBODYE
& hs heirs of hs bodye xvjd [16 pence] yn the name of a
drye Rent
Itm I geve & bequeath to Nicholas TRUBODYE my third sone
all my meases lands & tents wth all there apprtenncs in
Castell otherwise called Lyteltyne Parett to have & to
holde to him & to hs heir male of his body lawfully
begottyn as hitt apperith more playnr yn a pen of
Indenturs
Itm I geve & bequeth to the said Nicholas all my meases
lands tents Rents Revoons & svises in fyve clanses of
lande myne lyeng beside Polscoth wthin the pisch of
Seint Wynnowe wth there apprtenncs which John MARTYMR &
Jane his wif my dawghter of me ther now holdeth to them
& there assiynes For terme of threscore [60] yeres to
have & to holde to the said Nicholas & to hs heir male
of his bodye la[w]flly
begotyn Res[er]ving to the saide John MARTINR & Jane hs
wif & ther assyns the said terme
Itm I geve & bequeath to John TREWBODYE my eldist son
one maser cuppe & vj [6] sylvr spones being the rest of
hs prinerpaltees & as for all other pncipaltees he hath
alreadye
Item I geve & bequeth to Nicholas my sone a brewing pane
a great Crook a folding borde a Cubborde a basyn ewer
Chamblonr v [5] sylvr spones a salt of sylvr nevr to
[be] solde nor putt from the howse butt my will & mynde
ys thatt hitt shall go from heir to her of the Castell
affor saide pvided allwayes thatt my will & mynde ys
thatt my wif Marye shall have the order of all the
pu.ysses & stuf yn the Castell duryng her naturall lyf
Itm I geve & bequeth to Lowdye my dawghter towards her
maryage xiijli [£13] & also For her apparell xls [11
shillings] & towards the chargs of her dynr xxvjs viijd
[£1:6:8] Itm I geve & bequeth to Lawrens TRUBODYE my
vjth [6th] sone yn godds to the value of iijli vjs viijd
[£3:6:8]
Itm to Ane my svant xls [possibly crossed out] dawghter
of John ROBYN towards here mariage so thatt sche abide
yn the house of Castell Reasonabell yeres to
an ende xls [11 shillings]
Itm I geve & bequeth to John ...... of .... .... one of
my wearings cots
Item to mayster Nicholas KENDALL for the heryott of
Huntyingdome xiijs iiijd [13 shillings 4 pence]
Itm to e...ch of my godchilderne xijd [12 pence]
Itm I geve & bequeth to my two goddaghters .. Kendals
daughtrs iiijs [4 shillings]
Itm I geve to poore men to be devided

The residue of my goodds nott gevyn nor bequethyn (my
legacyes pformed & my funeralls due) I geve & bequeth to
Nicho[las] TREWBODYE my son & Mary my wif whom I ordeyn
& make my la[w]fll exectors they to dispose hitt as
schall seme to ther best And I ordeyn & make Walter
TRWBODYE & John MARTYMR ovrseers of thys my last will &
tstamt & they to have for ther labour xxs [20 shillings]
& to have my
sylvr [the rest is very hard to decipher] pe.. for the
paymt therof & yf the pe.e be mor worth the o..r plus to
helpe other th ys will & ydeys the.tt lores ..... ..
John BARTHELETT shall be I dyssert praisers of all my
godds & catalls befor .... & to have for ther labor iijs
