Will of Edward Harris, dated 12 May
1747
In the Name of God Amen I Edward
Harris of the parish of Lanivet in the County of
Cornwall Yeoman being of Perfect sound mind & memory but
calling to mind the uncertainty of this present life do
make & ordain this my last will and Testament in manner
following.
Item. I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God my
Creator hopeing for Salvation and forgiveness of my sins
through the merits and Passion of my Dearest Saviour
Jesus Christ and my Body I commit to the Earth to be
decently buried at the discretion of my Executors herein
after named.
Item. I give devise and bequeath unto my dear Wife
Catherine Harris and to my son Thomas Harris all that my
estate in Bodmin called or known by the name of Round
Pool upon this Special Trust and Confidence in them
reposed that they and the survivor of them and the
Executor and Administrator of such survivor do & shall
during the time and terme which I now have in the said
Estate by virtue of my Lease thereof pay yearly and
every year during the continuance thereof unto my
daughters Elizabeth Bond and Ann Harris fifty shillings
a year each during the life of my dear wife and after
her decease then Three Pounds a year clear money to each
of them during the continuance of the said Lease to be
paid them quarterly And my will and intention is that it
shall be paid to their own hands and for their own
separate use notwithstanding their Coverture to their
being married, and in case my daughter Elizabeth shall
happen to dye then my will and intention is that her
part shall go to and be for the benefit of her children
to be layed out & disposed of for them yearly and every
year in such manner and proportion as my son Thomas
shall think fit and necessary And in case my daughter
Ann shall happen to dye leaving child or children then
her part shall go to and be foe the benefit of such
child or children to be layed out and disposed of for
them yearly and every year in such like manner and
proportion as my son Thomas shall think fit & necessary
But in case my daughter Ann shall happen to dye without
issue then my will and meaning is that her legacy shall
go to and be divided equally between my Executors and my
said daughter Elizabeth’s children but still the
children’s part is to be paid to them according as my
son Thomas shall think fit and necessary as is before
mentioned and my further will and meaning is that my
wife shall not sell or otherwise dispose of her right in
sd Estate called Round Pool which she may have being
Executrix of this my will it being my intention that my
son Thomas should have the whole and sole benefit of
that my Estate after the above legacyes are paid but in
case my said legacyes shall not be duly paid the
Legatees shall have power by Vertue of this my will
thirty days after each quarter to distrain for the said
legacyes being unpaid and in arrear or to enter upon The
sd. Estate as is usual in such cases and according to
law.
Item. I give & Bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth bond
one bed furnished and two new chairs.
Item. I give & Bequeath unto my daughter Ann Harris one
Bed furnished a brass pan and a round table.
Item. I give & Bequeath unto my Grand daughter Ann Bond
twenty shillings a year for three years towards buying
her cloaths to be paid her by my said Executors.
Item. All the rest and residue of my Personal Estate
whatsoever and who soever (not how disposed of) I do
give devise & Bequeath unto my dear wife Katherine
Harris and to my son Thomas Harris whom I do make and
ordain to be the whole and sole Executor of this my last
Will and Testament, and I do hereby revoke & make void
all former wills by me made In Witness whereof I have
now unto sett my hand and seal this Twelfth day of May
in the year of our Lord God One Thousand Seven Hundred &
forty seven. Edward

The before written Will was Proved in Common Form the
25th Sepr. 1747 Before the Rev’d M Wm Waddon Clerk Mtr
of Arts Official etc And Admion of the Goods and of the
Dece’d and of all things howsoever concerning the said
Will was Granted to the Exect’s therein named being
first sworne and saving er £216:0:0.
The before written Will is a True Coppy examined and
compared with the Original this 25th Day of Sept’r 1747
