Settlement Paper for William Hawken & Family, dated 27 May 1762Cornwall to wit. We the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Lanivat in the said County do hereby Certify, own and acknowledge, William Hawken Tinner, Rebecca his Wife, and Rebecca their Daughter to be Inhabitants legally settled in our said Parish of Lanivat. In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our Hands and Seals, the Twenty Seventh Day of May in the Year of our Lord one Thousand seven Hundred and sixty two
We whose Names are hereunto subscribed, two of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the County of Cornwall aforesaid, do allow of the abovewritten Certificate. And we do also Certify that Thomas Tom one of the Witnesses who attested the Execution of the said Certificate, hath this Day made Oath before us the said Justices, that he did see the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor, whose Names and Seals are thereunto subscribed and set, severally Sign and Seal the same; and that the Names of the said Thomas Tom and of Lawrance Thomas, whose Names are subscribed as Witnesses to the Execution of the said Certificate, are respectively of their own proper Hand-writing.
