The Will of Peter Buckingham, dated 25 November 1745

In the name of God Amen I Peter Buckingham of the parish of Laddock in the County of Cornwall Yeoman being at present weake in Body but of a Sound and Disposeing Mind Memory and Understanding (Thanks be to God Do hereby make this my last Will and Testament in Writeing hereby revokeing all former Wills by me at anytime made In the first place I Commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Maker hopeing in and thro’ the Merritts and passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour to Inherit Eternal life and my Body to Christian Buriall Also I do hereby Give and Bequeath unto my Dear Wife one Guinea of Gold, Also I do hereby Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Joan Carlyon one Guinea of Gold Also I do hereby give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Mitchell one Guinea of Gold. Also I do herby Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Catherine Cock One Guinea of Gold, Also I do herby Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Amy Buckingham the Sum of Eighty Pounds Sterling to be paid her at the End of Two Years after my Decease by my Executor hereafternamed and in the Mean time and until the said Eighty Pound be paid I do hereby Give to my said Daughter Amy the full sume of Four Pounds a Year to be paid her by Quarterly Payments the first Payment to be made on the first most usual Quarterly Day of Payment that shall happen after my Decease. Also I Give to my said Daughter Amy Buckingham the Sum of Twenty Shillings a year free and Clear of all outgoeings whatsoever dureing her Natural life if She lives now on Down Gate happen so long to live for payment of Which I bind my said Estate called Down Gate to pay the said Annuity by Quarterly payments the first payment to be made the first Usual Quarter Day of Payment after my Decease but if Alice Huddy Survive me then there is nothing to be paid till the first Quarter Day of payment after her Decease and if the said Sume of Twenty Shillings is behind and unpaid one whole Year and being Lawfully Demanded I do Impower my said Daughter Amy Buckingham or her Assigns to Enter upon or Distrain the said Premisses and the same to Keep and injoy until she is fully paid with the Charges if any be Also I do Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Lydia Buckingham all that my Tenement called Gears Tenement lyeing and being in the parish of Laddock to have and to hold the same to her or her Assigns dureing the Terme of her Natural life Also I do herby Give to each of my Grand Children One Guinea of Gold. Also I Give to such of the poor of the Parish of Laddock as do not receive pay Twenty Shilling to be distributed by my Executor All the Rest of my Lands and Tenements Goods and Chattells not hereinbefore given and Bequeathed I do herby Give Devise and Bequeath unto my Son Henry Buckingham who I do hereby make Ordain Constitute and Appoint Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal this Twenty Fifth Day of November One Thousand Seven Hundred Forty Five

The beforewritten Will was proved in Common Form the 11th May 1747 Before the Revd Mr Wm Waddon Clerk Master of Arts Official etc & Admion of the Goods etc of the Dec’ed was Granted to Joan (The Wife of Walter Carlyon) Elizabeth (the Wife of John Mitchell) Catherine (the Wife of Anthony Cock) Amy Buckingham and Lydia Buckingham Spinsters the Natural and Lawfull Daughters of the said Dec’ed Henry Buckingham the Son of the said dec’ed and Execr named in the said Will dyeing before the said Peter Buckingham the Testator being first Sworne etc/Saveing etc.
