The Will of William Bond, dated 7 April 1747In the name of God Amen I William Bond of the parish of Laddock and County of Cornwall Clothier being at present in my Sick Bed (but blessed by God) perfectly sound in my Understanding and memory and of a Disposeing Mind do make and Appoint this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and Disannulling all former Wills whatever, and in the first place I humbly recommend my Soul into the Mercifull hands of God that gave it Trusting and hopeing for Pardon and remission in and thro’ the alone Meritts of Jesus my blessed Saviour and Redeemer and my Body to a decent Christian Burial. As to those wordly Goods God has been graciously pleased to bless my Endeavours with I Dispose of as under I Give and Bequeath to my Trusty and beloved Brothers in Law William Courtenay and Thomas Courtenay Taylors and my dearly Beloved Brother John Bond Clothier Joyntly all of the parish of Laddock aforesaid all my Goods Chattells Money Security for Money and all other my Effects of whatever kind they be in Trust nevertheless for the Sole Use Benefitt and Behoofe of my Beloved Wife Ann Bond That is to say that they do and tis my Earnest desire and Order and Appointment from time to time and at all times during her Natural life take especial Care of and provision make for my said Beloved Wife Suitable to her wants and as the Exigencies and Necissityes of her case shall or may require out of my said Goods Chattells and Effects and tis my Further Will and Pleasure that immediately after the Demise of my said Wife Ann Bond That whatever of my Goods Effects or the produce of them be left unspent in her maintainance and Buriall be in and remain forever to my Beloved Cousing John son to Thomas Courtenay abovesaid and tis my further Will and pleasure That if my said Cousin John Courtenay shall appear at the death of my said Wife to be worth Fifty Pounds Clear and free of all Demands and Incumbrances whatsoever That then out of the Overplus I do give to my Brother John Bond Ten Pounds to my Brother Phillip Bond Ten Pounds To my Sister Joan Courtenay Fifty Shillings To my sister Mary Jolly fifty shillings to my sister Grace Williams to my Cousin Grace Daughter of my Brotherinlaw Matthew Courtenay Fifty Shillings all which several Legacyes to be paid at the End of Six Months after the Decease of my said Wife by the above named William Courtenay Thomas Courtenay and John Bond whom I do hereby nominate Constitute and Appoint Joynt Executers of this my last Will and Testament humbly Desireing them to Act Accordingly and to be accountable to my said Cousin John Courtenay as soon as he shall Attain the Age of Twenty One Years of all that shall remain in their hands over and above the mentioned Fifty Pounds to him and the Other Devised Legacyes & tis further my Will and Pleasure that my abovenamed Exectrs do pay and Allow themselves all necessary Expences in Manageing the said Trust but not to be Answerable to one Another for what may be in each their Hands respectively but each for himselfe to my Cousin John Courtenay And tis my Further Will and meaning that in case my said Cousin John Courtenay does not Appear to be Worth upwards of Fifty Pounds after the Decease of my said Wife that the abovenamed Several Legacyes be retrenched to one Halfe In Witness of all which I have sett my hand and Seal this Seventh of April One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Seven.
The before written Will was proved in Common Forme the 11th May 1747 Before the Revd Mr William Waddon Clerk Master of Arts Official etc And Admion of the Goods etc of the said Dec’ed And of all things howsoever concerning the said Will was Granted to Thomas Courtenay One of the Executors in Trust named in the Said Will / Wm Courtenay and John Bond the Other of the Executors in Trust named in the said Will being present in Court first Renouncing / Saveing etc.
