Will of Degory Shepherd, dated 1 Mar 1748
 

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN the First Day of March One Thousand Seven Hundred Forty Eight I Degory Shepherd in the parish of Kilkhampton in the County of Cornwall yeoman being in sound and perfect Memory do make and Ordaine this my Last Will and Testament in Manner and Form following.
First I Bequeath my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hopeing through the Merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour for a full pardon of all my (si)ns? and my Body to the Earth to be Buried in such decent and Christian manner as to my Executor hereafter named shall seem fit and as to my worldly goods I do give, devise and dispose of the same as here Followeth.
ALSO I Give unto John Norway the son of William Norway, farmer my Field called the West Park and I do order that he pay the Eight part to the Lord's Rent and all other Taxes Charged upon my Estate called Whitcroft dureing the Right wch. I now have therein and I also Give him my Little Horse and I do appoint his Father William Norway Guardian and Trustee for the said child untill he come to the age of one and Twenty years; and if the said Child happen to dye before he come to that age then I do Give the said Field to the said William Norway dure the Right be paying as aforesaid Towards the Rent and Taxes.
ALSO I give unto Mary Norway one pewter dish and my little pot.
ALSO I give unto my Kinsman John Wills Five Shillings to be paid him one year after my death by my Executor.
ALSO I give unto Mary Tuwissa Five pounds to be paid to her by my Executor one year after my death. And I do also give her all my Goods  both Quick and dead. And I also Give her the House and Garden in which John Ching now dwells for the Term of her life and if she dye then I do give the right of the said House and Garden to William Norway and all my Goods both Quick and dead.
ALSO I Give unto Thomas Johns the Elder Five Shillings and unto his two sons William and John to each of them Five Shillings to be paid them all three by my Executor one year after my death.
ALSO I Give unto James Yeo the younger Two Shillings and Sixpence to be paid him one year after my death.
Also I Give unto William Norway one Bed performed.
ALSO all the Rest of my Goods and Chattels not before mentioned and Given. I do Give unto Thomas Johns the younger whom I do hereby make my whole and Sole Executor and he to see my debts and Legacies paid and Funeral Expenses discharged.
And in Witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal even the day and year First above socil written 1748-9

The before written Will of the Beforenamed Degory Shepherd deced is a true Copy Examined and Compared with the Original this 30th. day of June By us

The Before written Will of the Before Named Degory Shephers deced was proved in Common Form the 22nd. of June 1750. Before the Revd. Mr. William Waddon Clk master of Arts Official etc. and admion of the Goods etc. of the sd. deced and of all things howsoever Concerning was Granted to the Execr. therein named being first Sworn etc. Saveing etc.
