Particulars relating to charities

"The Charity Commissioners by letter dated 5 Oct 1903, say under the circumstances and conditions of the several charities named hereafter, the Rector and Churchwardens of the Parish of St John, may properly be considered as the administering Trustees of these charities."

  1. "Richard Treville by will dated 4 November 1647 gave 12 pence weekly for ever, to be bestowed in bread and divided amongst the Poor People of the Parish of St John, every Sunday after Morning Prayer in the Church." (see this page)
  2. "The Reverend Beel, by will dated 19 September 1757, gave 6 pence weekly for ever to bestowed in bread and divided by the Minister amongst the Poor People of the Parish of St John, every Sunday, in the morning, after Divine Service" (see this page)
  3. "William Hewett, by will proved on the 27 August 1836, gave £2077-16-9. two and three quarters per cent consolidated stock, to provide pensions for poor people of good character, who shall have resided in one of the Parishes of Stoke Damerel, St John, or Maker, for not less than three years, next preceeding their appointment, and shall not during that period have received Poor Law relief."

"The "Charitable Trusts Acts" require that the Trustees or persons administering every charity shall, on or before 25 March in every year prepare and transmit an account of all money received and expended with particulars thereof, together with details of such Receipts and Expenses."
