Undated memoranda, from the first page of a Register commencing 1799
Memorandum taken from the old register book of St
John's
That the Rector of St John's for the time being is, on every Michaelmas
Day in the forenoon, to pay over on the Communion table in Antony
Church, one shilling which is in lieu of all rents and tithes
^ rates and taxes for
that part of his Glebe which is in Antony parish.
Subscribed
Nicholas Lodge, Rector of St John’s
The words, rates and taxes were interlined there as shown here, and in
an ink different from the rest, which I have thought fit to mention, as
well as to insert the whole memorandum, for the same purpose, for which
it was first written.
John Torre, Rector
Below them on the same page is a copy (but less
clear) of the same extract of Rev Beere’s will that is transcribed
here.
N.B.
1. Nicholas Lodge was Rector from 1603. The one shilling payment is
mentioned in A Short History of the Ancient Diocese of Exeter by
Herbert Edward Reynolds
2. John Torre was Rector from 1697.
