The Will of John Simons, dated 24 January 1816
In the name of God amen. This is the last will and
testament of me, John Simons of the parish of St Hilary, Cornwall,
miner. Being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind memory and
understanding and considering the shortness and the [ ] of this life do
make this my last will and testament in [ ] and form following. That is
to say I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Margaret Simons all my
property of what kind soever (except my [waring?] apart to be by her
enjoyed during her life and after her decease I bequeath the house and
premises where I now reside to my beloved daughter Honor Courtise the
wife of Walter Courtise of St Hilary aforesaid but on the express
condition of her [ ] her husband’s [ ] to my well beloved daughter Mary
Wills wife of Richard Wills of St Hilary aforesaid the sum of fifteen
pounds to be paid to her or her husband within [ ] months after my wifes
decease and so hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife sole
executrix of this my last will and testament requiring her to pay all my
just debts and to give all my wearing apparel to my beloved grandsons
Walter Courtise Junr and John Wills Junr to be divided equally between
them. And I so further direct that after my wifes decease my two
daughters above mentioned or their husbands shall divide the household
furniture and any other moveable effects whatsoever that may then be
left equally between them share and share alike. And I do hereby utterly
revoke all wills by me formerly [ ] this to be my last will and
testament and no other. In witness [ ] have hereto set my hand and seal
this twenty fourth day of January in the year of our lord one thousand
eight hundred and sixteen.
Signed sealed published and declared by the testator John Simons to be
his last will and testament in [ ] of each other have [ ] subscribed our
names.

The before written will of the before named John Simons is a true copy
compared and examined to the original this 20th day of February by us
Salm Martin
Peter Richards
The before written will of the before named John Simons miner, deceased
are as proved in common form 30th May 1820 before Thomas Pascoe clerk by
virtue of a [Committ ] and administration of all and singular the goods
etc. of the said deceased or any way concerning the said will was and is
granted to Margaret Semens the widow of the said and sole executrix
named in the said will.
Being first sworn & [saving] & no inventory.
