Will of Edward Michell, dated 20 February 1631

In the name of God amen
I Edward Mitchell of Gorran in the Countye of Cornwall
being weake in body but pfect in memory, praised be
almightye God doe make and ordaine this my last will
and testament in manner and forme following
First I doe give and bequeath my Soule unto God my Creator
and Redeemer, and my bodye to Christian buriall,
Item I doe give & bequeath to the Church of Gorran ------- XXs
Item I doe give & bequeath to the poore of the same pish --- XXs
Item I doe give & bequeath unto Mary my eldest daughter
Threescore
and Ten pounds of lawfull monye of England to be paid unto her
when she shalbe of the age of two and twenty yeares
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Thomasin my second daughter
Threescore
pounds of lawfull English monye to be paid unto her when shee
shalbe of the age of one and twenty yeares
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Agnes my third daughter

pounds of lawfull English monye to be paid unto her when she
shalbe of the age of one and twenty yeares.
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Judeth my youngest daughter
Fifty pounds of lawfull monye of England to be paid unto her
when shee shalbe of the age of two and twenty yeares
Item my will is that my executrix shall give and allowe Competent
maintaynance unto my said daughters until the abovesaid
legacyes shall growe unto them respectively dew as aforesaid
and if my executrix shall refuse to give and allowe them or either
of them Competent maintainance as abovesaid Then my will is
that my executrix shall wthin three monethes after such refusall
pay unto them or such of them unto whom she shall soe refuse to give
maintainance the legacyes formerly given & bequeathd
unto them as abovesaid
Item I doe give & bequeath unto John my eldest sonne all my
estate and
terme in a tenement called Cruconnor, and all my estate and
terme in the Streat comonly called Rayles Streat after
the death of Francis my wife, and if he happen to dye
before he shalbe of the age of one & twenty yeares, Then
I doe give & bequeath the same unto Edward Mitchell my
yongest Sonne after the death of the said Francis
Item I doe give and bequeath unto the said John my eldest sonne
All my
Household goods saving two fether beds furnished to be delivered unto
him when he shall
accomplish the age of two and twenty yeares, and if he happen
to dye before he shalbe two & twenty yeares of age, then
I doe give and bequeath the same unto Edward Mitchell my
youngest Sonne to be delivered unto him, when he shalbe of
the age of two and twenty yeares, and my will is
that my executrix shall in the meane time, have the use
of the said goods, , if she live soe long & if she happen to
dye before that time, then my will is that Mary my eldest
daughter shall in the meane time have the use of
them, and shall then deliver the same accordingly,
Item I doe give & bequeath unto the said John my sonne all my
right
and estate in the sellars Courtlages pallace
and Salt Roome wch I have in Porth East
Item I doe give & bequeath unto the said Edward my sonne all my
right estate and title wch I have unto a tenement
Called Sticker situate in the pish of Mewan, and
if he happen to dye before he shalbe one & twenty
yeares of age, Then I doe give & bequeath the
same unto the said John my sonne
Item I doe give and bequeath unto my said son Edward
one fetherbed furnished
Item I doe give & bequeath unto Stephen Wisa five pounds
in recompence of all dewes from me to him to be paid
unto him wthin one month after he shall refuse to take
his maintaynance from my executrix, or my executrix
shall refuse to maintaine him,
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Edward Hendy -----XLs
Item I doe give & bequeath unto Henry Wisa ----------XXs
Item I doe give unto William Nancarrowe one lambe.
Item I doe give unto Phillip Griffin, William the sonne of
Arthur Jefford, Henry the sn of Richard Michell,
and
Edward the sn of John Polsue of Polsue
an ewe lambe a peace
All the rest of my goods and Chattells not given nor bequeathed
I doe give and bequeath unto Francis my wife, whom
I doe make my whole and sole executrix,
Lastly I doe entreat Nathaniell Trevanyon esq & Edward
Hoblyn gent to be overseers of this my last will and
testament, praying them, in what they may, to see the
same pformed, and that my Children may be brought
up in the feare of God, into whose hands I doe
Comend my spiritt.
In witnesse heerof I have heerunto set my
hand and Seale the twentieth day of February
in the yeare of our Lord God 1631}

Xx the second day of Aprill Ao Dni 1632. I the
aforesaid Edward Michell
doe now further declare that my will is that my said daughter Mary
shall have the use of my goods if my executrix shall dye before my sonne
John shall accomplish the age of two & twenty yeares, onely soe
long as my
abovesaid overseers shall think it meet, & noe longer and from
thenceforth my
said goods to be as I have formerly given the same, and I doe also
declare
that my abovesaid sonne Edward shall have nothing to do with the
abovesaid tenement Called Sticker untill he shall accomplish the age of
thirteen yeares, witnes my hand.
