Golant, St Sampson Entry from the Post Office Directory of Cornwall 1856

ST. SAMPSON’S or GOLLANT is a small parish, situated 3 miles from Fowey and 4 from Lostwithiel in the east division of Powder Hundred and St. Austell Union. GOLLANT is the principal village, situated on the west bank of the river and harbour of Fowey. The church, an old stone building, was restored within the last ten years. The living is a perpetual curacy, value £50 per annum, in the gift of William Rashleigh, Esq., of Menabilly. The population in 1851 was 335; acreage 1,470.
