Know all Men by these Presents that I JOHN BROWN of the Parish of Saint
Germans in the County of Cornwall Husbandman am Held and firmly Bound
unto HENRY SHORT, JOHN CONGDON, BERNARD ANSTIS and HENRY SYMONDS,
Churchwardens and HUGH LITTLETON, PETER RICHARDS and THOMAS MITCHELL
Overseers of the poor of ye Parish of Saint Germans in the said County
(in trust for the Parishioners of the said Parish) in the sum of Fifty
Pounds of good and lawfull Money of Great Britain to be paid to the said
HENRY SHORT, JOHN CONGDON, BERNARD ANSTIS, HENRY SYMONDS, HUGH
LITTLETON, PETER RICHARDS and THOMAS MITCHELL or their certain Attorney,
their Executors Administrators or Assigns. To which payment well and
truly to be made I Bind myself my Heirs, Executors and Administrators
firmly by these presents. Sealed with my Seal and dated the fourth day
of Novemr. in the fourth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George
the third by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King
Defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord Christ
One Thousand Seven hundred and Sixty three.
The Condition of this Obligation is such, that whereas ELIZABETH
WADDLETON of the Parish of Saint Germans in the County of Cornwall
Singlewoman, hath in and by her Voluntary Examination taken in writing
and upon Oath, before CHARLES TRELAWNY Esquire one of his Majesty’s
Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of Cornwall declared
that she was with Child, and that the said Child was likely to be born a
Bastard and to be chargeable to the said Parish of Saint Germans, and
that the above bounden JOHN BROWN is the father of the said Child. And
Whereas sometime since (Elizth.) on the Tenth day of September now last
past at Hessenford in the parish of Saint Germans in the County
aforesaid, she the said ELIZABETH WADDLETON was delivered of the said
Bastard Child of which, the said JOHN BROWN is the father and that the
said Bastard Child hath since been Christened by the name of John, and
is likely to become chargeable to the said Parish of Saint Germans. If
therefore the said JOHN BROWN his Heirs Executors or Administrators do
and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter, fully and
clearly indemnify and save harmless as well the above named
Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint
Germans and their Successors for the time being as also all and singular
the other Inhabitants and Parishioners of the said Parish of Saint
Germans, which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being of and
from all manner of Costs, Taxes, Rates, Assessments and Charges
whatsoever for or by reason of the Birth Education and Maintenance of
the said Bastard Child, and of and from all Actions, Suits, troubles and
other charges and demands whatsoever, touching or concerning the same,
that then this present Obligation to be void Otherwise of force.
