The Will of William Ferrett, dated 26 May 1741

In the Name of God the Twenty Sixth Day of May in the Year of our Lord
Christ 1741, I William Ferrett of the Parish of St. Ginnys in the County
of Cornwall Yeoman finding myself to be weak of Body but perfect in mind
and memory thanks be to God for the same do make and Ordain this to be
my last Will and Testament in manner and form as followeth (that is to
say) Principally and first of all I Give and recommend my soul into the
hands of Almighty God that gave it and for my Body I recommend it to the
Earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the
Discretion of my Executrixes hereafter named and as touching such
worldly Goods wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this
life I Give devise and Bequeath in the following manner. First I will
that my Debts and funeral Charges shall be paid and discharged. Item I
Give devise and Bequeath unto my dear and loveing wife Willmett Ferrett
all that my Messuage and Tenement with its and every of its
Appurtenances commonly called or known by the name of Menarin during her
Natural life and likewise I give unto my said Wife one acre of wheat and
one Acre of Barley and one Acre of Oates to be to her own Choice if
there be so much in the Ground at my death and one Cow & one Horse and
Pamel Pilling and Covering with a Bridle and Gisses for the same to be
at her own Choice likewise and likewise I give unto my said Wife the use
of Divers sorts of household Goods hereafter mentioned during her
widowhood or as long as she shall live Single and Unmarried (That is to
say) the Feather Bedd whereon I usually Lie performed and one Chest of
Drawers and one Third part of the Household Goods within doors and the
Great Bible and one Sermon Book and the whole duty of man with this
Proviser

and on this Condition that she pay Twenty Pounds of Lawfull English
money unto my Executrixes hereafter named (That is to say) Five pounds a
Year for four Years next after my death if my said wife do so long
happen to live and my Will further Witnesseth that the Corn and the
quick Goods are to be in her own Dispose and the household Goods within
doors are to be returned to my Executrixes immediately after her death.
Item I Give unto my son in law Henry Bray my best Suit of Apparel
and my Gunn. Item I Give unto William Stacey my son in law all my
Plough Tackell & Harves. Item I Give unto my son in law Edward
Smeeth the Prayer Book that was formerly Mr. Braddons. Item I
Give unto the said Edward Smeeth’s Three Daughters one Shilling apeice.
Item I Give unto William Stacy my Grandson all the aforesaid
Tenement called Menarin after the death of my wife if he do happen to
out live my said Wife with all and every of the Appurtenances for and
during the residue and remainder of Years then to come and unexpire on
this Condition – that he the said William Stacy or his Exec’r, Adm’r, or
Assigns do pay or cause to be paid unto his Sister Christian Stacy and
Lucy Bray my other Grandaughter the Sume of Forty Shilling apiece every
Year during the said Terme and likewise I Give unto my said Grandson all
the rest of Wearing Apparell that is not before disposed of. Item
I Give unto my Granddaughter Catherine Stacey one Stack of Bees. Item I
Give up unto my Apprentice Joseph Fuge his Indentures Immediately after
my Death. Item I Give devise and Bequeath unto my Daughter Ann
Stacey all that my Messuage and Tenement in west Smorne commonly called
or known by the name of Digory Wicketts Tenement with all and every of
its’ Appurtences as by her Freely to be possessed and Enjoyed. Item
I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my daughter Jane Bray all that my
Messuage and Tenem’t wherein I now Dwell commonly called or known by the
Name of William Ferrett Quarter of Treng___? with all and every of

its Appurtences by her freely to be possessed and Enjoyed. Lastly all
the rest of my Lands Goods Chattells and Effects whatsoever I Give
Devise and Bequeath unto my Two said Daughters Ann Stacey and Jane Bray
share and share alike whom I likewise make Ordain my whole and sole
executrixes of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby Utterly
Disallow revoke and Dissannul all and every other former Testamts. Wills
Legacyes and Executors by me in anywise before this time named Willed
and Bequeathed Confirming this and no other to be my last Will and
Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seal the
Day and Year first above written 1741.
Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said William Ferrett as his
last Will and Testament in the Presence of us the Subscribers.

The Beforewritten Will was Proved in Common Form the
16th Day of Jan’y. 1746 Before the Rev’d. Master William Waddon Clerke
Master of Arts Official etc. And Admon of the Goods etc of the sd. Deced.
And of all things howsoever concerning his said Will was Granted to the
Executrixes in the said Will named / being first sworne etc/ Saveing
etc. Invent’y. 222:6:0
The beforewritten will is a True Coppy of the last Will and Testament of
the abovenamed William Ferrett Examined and Compaired with the Original
this 27th Day of January 1746 by us.
