The Will of John Williams, dated 10 February 1743

In the Name of God Amen I John Williams of Fowy in the County of Cornwall Clothier being weak and Sick in Body but of a perfect Sound and Disposing mind and memory (Thanks be therefore Given to Almighty God) Doe for preventing all disputes and differences which may arise or happen after my Death make and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (That is to say) first and Principally I Recommend my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God who Gave it me hoping through his Mercy and the Meritts and Intercession of my Blessed Saviour Jesus Christ to obtain pardon and Remission of all my sins and to Inheritt Everlasting life and my Body I Committ to the Earth Decently to be Interred after the Discretion of my Executrixes hereinafter named and as for the worldly Estate and Effects which God in his Mercy hath been pleased to bestow on me I Give Devise and Bequeath the same in manner and forme following (That is to say)
I Give and Devise unto my son John Williams and unto John, Mary, Elizabeth and Sarah his son and daughters and to each of them one shilling.
Also I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Williams that part of my messuage or Dwelling House now in my Possession Lyeing next the High Street in Fowy aforesaid Consisting of Six Rooms (That is to say) Two Higher Chambers, Two Middle Chambers and Two Under Rooms To Have and To Hold the same six rooms unto my said Daughter Elizabeth her Executors and Administrators for and during all the Residue and Remainder of a Term of Nine Hundred and Ninety Nine years which I am possessed of and Intitled unto in the same premises Also I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my said daughter Elizabeth all that my other messuage or dwelling House situate lying and being near the Churchyard of Fowy in Fowy aforesaid commonly known by the Name of Downings House To Have and To Hold the same unto my said Daughter Elizabeth her Executors and Administrators and during the Residue and Remainder of the Terme of Ninety Nine Years therein to come and unexpired by virtue of the Indenture of Lease thereof. Also I Give and Devise unto my said Daughter Elizabeth my Best Bed furnished
Also I Give and Devise and Bequeath unto my Daughter Ruth Williams That other part of my said Messuage or Dwelling House now in my possession which lyeth next towards the Churchyard of Fowy aforesaid Consisting of Six other rooms (That is to say) Two Higher Chmabers, Two Middle Chambers and Two Under Rooms To Have and To Hold the same six last mentioned rooms unto my said daughter Ruth and her Heires for ever To Her and their only use and Behoofe for Evermore
Also I Give and Devise and Bequeath unto my Daughter Anne wife of Jeremiah Congdon the sum of Twenty Shillings of Lawfull money of Great Britain yearly and every year for an during the term of her Natural Life to be paid unto her the said Anne Congdon by my Executrixes herein after named by even and equal Quarterly payments And my will and meaning is and I do hereby direct and order that my said Daughter Anne shall have and Receive the same to her own separate use without her said Husbands interfereing intermeddleing or having anything to do therewith and the Receipt and Receipts of my said Daughter Anne for the same shall be a sufficient discharge unto my Executrixes
Also all the rest residue and remainder of my Goods and Chattels of what kind or nature what so ever not hereby or herein before Given Devised or Bequeathed I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my said Daughters Elizabeth and Ruth and them the said Elizabeth and Ruth I make ordain and appoint Executrixes of this my last Will and Testament Hereby revoking all and Every Wills and Testaments by me hitherto made
In Witness whereof I the said Testator John Williams have to this my last Will and Testament Set my Hand and Seal and Published and Declared the same to be my Last Will and Testament the Tenth day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Three.

Execution thereofin the presence of him

The before written Will of the above named John Williams deceased is a true Copy Examined and Compared with the Original this 17th Sept 1748 by

The before written Will of the abovenamed John Williams deced was proved in common forme the 9th Sept 1748 before the Reverend Mr Jonathan Baron Clerk Master of Arts Surrogate etc and Admion of the Goods etc of the Said deced and of all things howsoever Concerning the Said Will was Granted to the Executrixes therein named being first Sworne etc Saveing etc
