The Will of John Collumbe, dated 8 January 1751
In the name of God Amen I John Collumbe of
the Parish and Borrough of
Fowey in the County of Cornwall yeoman being weak in Body but of Sound
and Disposing
Mind and Memory thanks be to Almighty God and Calling to mind the
uncertainty
of this life doe take this Opportunity to Make my last will and
testament hereby revoking
all former will and wills by me at any time or Times hitherto made And
first I Recommend my
Soul into the hands of Almighty God who first gave it me hoping through
his Mercy and Merits
and Satisfaction of my Blessed Saviour Jesus Christ to obtain pardon and
Remission of all my
Sins and to inherit Everlasting Life and my Body I commit to the Earth
to be Interred after the Discr=
tion of my Executrix And as for the Worldly Estate and Effects which God
in his mercy hath Been
pleased to bestow on me I Give Devise and Bequeath the Same in Manner
and forme following That is
to Say I give and Devise into my daughter Elizabeth The wife of
Henry Crocker One
Guinea of Gold I give and Devise unto my daughter Jullian Collumb
One Guinea
of Gold I give and Devise unto my Grand Daughter Elizabeth Crocker
One Guinea of
Gold All the rest of my goods and Chattles readymoney and Effects of
what kind or nature
Soever they be not herein before by me given nor Devised I give Devise
and Bequeath unto
my Dearly beloved wife Jullian Collumb and She the Said Jullian
Collumb I hereby make
ordain Constitute and appoint my whole and Sole Executrix of this my
last will and tes=
=tament during her Natural life in paying all my Just Debts and Legacies
and my
Executrix Shall take care and provide for my Son John Collumb
Such Competent and
Necessary Maintenance in Such a manner as I did provide for him by my
life time and
my will and meaning is that my Son John Collumb Shall have the
Estate Called Middle
Lewire in the parish of Fowey aforesaid after the death of my Executrix
for maintenance
for him during his life if the right So long continues and after his
Decease then my Estate
called Middle Lewire Shall come to my Two Daughters Elizabeth Crocker
and Jullian Collu
=mb or the Survivor of them and if both living for to Share and Share
alike and if my Son
John Collumb doth Survive and outlive my Executrix after my
Executrix Decease I do hereby
appoint Charles of the said parish of Tywardreath as Guardian and
Trustee of my Son to take Care for him during his
Natural life and is the said Charles Baker doth think it proper I
Would have him to
live with one of his Sisters and the said Charles Baker Allowing
himself Reasonable
Satisfaction for his trouble And further my will and Meaning is that if
my Executrix
Shall not have Occasion for to Sell my Estate called Treswithick in the
parish of
Tywardreth for a Support and Maintenance for her during her naturall
life then
after my Executrix Decease if the Estate Treswithick is not Sold then
that same Estate
Called Treswithick Shall come to aforesaid Two Daughters Elizabeth
Crocker
and Jullian Collumb Share and Share alike or the Survivor of them
In Witness whereof
I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal to this my last will and testament
the Eight Day
of January in the yeare or our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven Hundred
and Fifty one
