Will of Thomas Brent dated 23 May 1737
In the name of God amen. 27th May 1737. According to the computation of
the church of England.
I Thomas Brent of the parish of St Dominick in the County of Cornwall
Yeoman being of perfect memory and remembrance praised be God do make
and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as
followeth:
First I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almightly God my maker hoping
that through the meritous death and passion of Jesus Christ my only
saviour and redeemer to know free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins
and as for my body to be buried at the discretion of my executors
hereafter named:
First, I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Mary Brent
Halton Key that is the townplace and houses and orchards and …….and two
plots of ground thereunto belonging. And also I give she half of my dead
goods, that is the household goods and ….. half of all.
Also, I give and bequeath unto my son Nicholas Brent
all the estate that I have in Linkinhorne parish in the County of
Cornwall aforesaid that I do give to him present.
Also, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Foot
the houses and orchards And ……. That I have in Holmbush in the parish of
Stoke Climsland in the County of Cornwall afsd. And Mary Right is now
tenant for the estate and she is to have it now present so long as she
shall live. And after her death then her son Henry to have it to him and
his heirs forever, provided he do live to the age of one and twenty
years. But if Mary Foot wife of John Foot, do happen to die before her
son Henry do accomplish the age of one and twenty, and Henry do die
before he shall accomplish the age of one and twenty years then to
Mary Foot the younger, daughter of the aforesaid Mary Foot
shall have the estate aforesaid to Holmbush to her and her heirs
forever. And I also give to Mary Foot my daughter twenty pounds to be
paid to she ten years after my decease if she he living but the interest
of the twenty pounds my executors shall pay she twenty shillings a year
before the money is payable.
Also I give and bequeath unto my grandson James Jope?
five pounds to be paid him when he shall accomplish the age of one and
twenty years.
Also I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Mary Foot twenty pounds
to be paid she when she shall accomplish the age of one and twenty
years.
Also I give unto my granddaughter Anne James the sum of four pounds to
be paid she when she shall accomplish the age of one and twenty years.
Also I give unto my granddaughter Thamsin James sixty pounds to be paid
she when she shall accomplish the age of one and twenty years, but my
executors shall pay the interest of the sixty pounds to her father
Charles James toward her maintenance three pounds a year before the
money be payable.
Also I give unto the poor of the parish of St Dominick ten shillings to
be paid within year after my death. Also I give unto the poor of the
parish of Stoke Climsland ten shillings to be paid within one year after
my decease.
Also I give and bequeath all the rest of my houses leases lands
whatsoever not before given my land in Killibray after the money is paid
that the estate is bound for the rest to go to my executors and all
other land to each alike and my goods of what kind soever not before
given in my will all the rest of my goods and tenements whatsoever after
my just debts is paid and legacys I give unto my three sons equal alike
Nicholas Brent, John Brent and Edward Brent. I do hereby make them
jointly executors alike equal one with the other of this my last will
and testament Revoking all other wills and testaments by me heretofore
made and day and date above. In witness I have hereunto set my hand and
seal. Anno Dom 1737.
A true and perfect inventory of all the goods and
chattels of Thomas Brent of the parish of St Dominick in the County of
Cornwall Yeoman, lately deceased, taken valued and appraised by John
Reed, Tristram Bowhay and James Hatch, June 16th 1737.

The Joint Inventory of the Goods of Thomas Brent, lately deceased, done
in common form before Mr Wm Madden Clk, Master of Arts and Official and
so forth. And admission of all and singular the goods of the deceased
and of all things howsoever concerning this will was granted to the
executors herein named. Going first in due form of law sworn, saving and
so forth.
