Will of Nicholas May, dated 26 August 1744
In the Name of God Amen I Nicholas May of the Parish
of Crantock in the County of Cornwall Yeoman being well stricken in
Years and some what weake in Body, but of Sound and Perfect Memory
Thanks be to God and calling to mind it is appointed for all men once to
dye do therefore take this opportunity of setting my house in order by
Disposeing of my Wordly Goods which God of his Goodness have been
pleased to bestowe upon me as followeth.
First and Principally I bequeath my soul into the hand of God that gave
it Trusting through the meritts of Christ my Saviour to Obtain Eternall
life and my Body to be Decently Buried at the Discretion of my Executors
hereafternamed. Item I Give and Bequeath to my son John May One Guinea
in gold to be paid by my Executors at the end of one year after my
Decease. Item I Give and Bequeath to my son Richard May the sum of one
shilling to be paid by my Executors at the end of one year after my
Decease. Item I Give and Bequeath to my Daughter Mary the wife of James
Rowe one Guinea in gold to be paid by my executors hereafternamed at the
end of one year after my Decease. Item all the rest of my real and
personal Estate of what Nature or kind soever (not already bequeathed I
Give and Bequeath to my dearly Beloved Wife Julian May my sons Nicholas
May, Samuel May and Henry May (after my Just and Lawfull Debts are paid)
whom I make Joynt Executors of this my last Will and Testament, And I do
hereby Charge them to see the same fulfilled. In Testamony whereof I
have hereunto sett my hand and seal this Twenty Sixth day of August in
the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and forty four.

The before Written Will was Proved in Common Form
the 5th day of December 1746 Before the Revd Master Wm Waddon Clk Mr of
Arts Official etc and Admion of the Goods etc of the sd Deced and of all
things howsoever concerning his said Will was
Granted to Julian May the Widdow of the sd Decd and one of the Executors
named in the said Will (Reserving a power of Granting the like Admion to
Nicholas, Samuel and Henry May the sons of the Sd Deced and the other
Executors named in the said Will when they shall come of age to take the
same upon themselves (being first Sworn etc) saving etc

The before written Will is a True Coppy of the last Will and Testament
of the before named Nicholas May Deced Examind and Compared with the
Original this 21st Day of December 1746 by us |
