Return to St Columb Major Parish Page Will of John Metherell, dated 19 November 1742In the name of God Amen the Nineteenth Day of November in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and forty Two I John Metherell senior of the parish of St Cullombmajor and County of Cornwall Yeoman being sick and weak in Body but of perfect Mind and Memory thanks be given unto God, therefore Calling unto mind the Mortality of my Body and knowing that it is Appointed for all Men once to die Do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament / That is to say/ Principally and first of all I Give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it, and my Body I Recommend to the Earth to be Buried in Decent Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executor hereinafter named Nothing Doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God and as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless me in this life I Give Demise and Dispose of the same in the following Manner and Form. Item I Give and Bequeath unto my dearly Beloved Wife Mary Metherell the Yearly Rent or sume of Ten Pounds of Good and Lawful Money of Great Brittain to be paid by four Quarterly Payments in each Year by my Executor hereinafter named during her Natural Life, and if in the said Quarterly Annuity shall be behind and unpaid/ by my Executor his Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns in the space of Twenty Days after such Quarterly Payment that then and thereupon it shall and may be Lawfull unto and for the said Mary my now Wife or her Assigns to enter in and upon that Tenement called and known by the Name of Laws Tenement Scituate lyeing and being in the Village of Ruthoes and Parish aforesaid, and to take and Distrain all such Cattle as shall be found thereon and the same to drive and Impound and in pound the same to keep and to dispose of the same as the Law directs for the payment of her said Quarterly Annuity. Item I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my Daughter Prudence the now Wife of John Merifield of St Cullombmajor Clothier the sum of one Hundred pounds of Good and Lawfull Money of Great Britain to be paid to her or her Executors Administrators or Assigns by my Executor his Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns at the end of Two Year after my Decease. Item I Give and Devise unto my son John Metherell all Other my Lands Tenements and Premisses Togeather with my Household Goods Husbandry Implements Cattle and all Other things to me belonging or in anywise Appertaining And I do hereby make and Ordain my said Son John Metherell my whole and Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby Revokeing Disannulling and making Void all Other my Wills and Bequests herein before made And I do hereby ratifye and Confirm this to be my only Will In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seal Yeoven the day and Year first written.
The beforewritten Will was passed in Common Forme the 7th May 1747 Before the Revd. Mr Anthony Hosken Clerk Mastter of Arts Surr…et. And Admion of the Goods e.. of the said deceased, and of all things howsoever Concerning his said Will was granted to the Executor therein named/Being first Sworn etc./Saveing et.
