Know all Men by these Presents That we RICHARD JEWELL and JOHN ALLEN Gentlemen Churchwardens, and JOHN WILLIAMS, Gentleman, OLIVER ADAMS CARWETH, Sadler, and JOHN MARTIN, Malster, Overseers of the poor of the parish of Saint Marys within the Borough of Truro, County of Cornwall (by and with the Privity and Consent of the principal inhabitants of the said Parish of Saint Marys Testify by their signing an Order of Vestry held the Eighteenth day of February last past for that purpose) are held and firmly bound to JOHN VERCOE and JOHN LAVIN Yeomen Churchwardens and JOSEPH KNIGHT and RICHARD JULIAN Yeomen and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint Clements in &/f (in and for) said County of Cornwall in the sum of Two hundred pounds of lawfull Money of Great Britain to be paid to them the said JOHN VERCOE JOHN LAVIN JOSEPH KNIGHT and RICHARD JULIAN Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint Clements or their certain Attorney Successors or Assigns, To which Payment well and truly to be made we Bind ourselves (as Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint Marys) and our Successors for the time being firmly by these Presents. Sealed with our Seals, Dated this First day of April, in the Twelfth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third, and in the year of our Lord One thousand seven Hundred and Seventy Two.

Whereas the Poorhouse belonging to the Parish of St. Marys lies within the Parish of Saint Clements, by means whereof Divers Illegitimate children have been already born and are in future likely to be born within the said Poorhouse, whereby some doubts have already arisen and may hereafter arise Touching the settlement of such Bastard Children.

The Condition of the above Obligation is such that if they the above Bounden RICHARD JEWELL JOHN ALLEN JOHN WILLIAMS, OLIVER ADAMS CARWETH and JOHN MARTIN Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the said parish of Saint Marys within the Borough of Truro aforesaid and their successors for the time being shall and Do from Time to Time and at all Times hereafter save harmless and keep indemnified the above named JOHN VERCOE, JOHN LAWIN, JOSEPH KNIGHT and RICHARD JULIAN Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the said parish of Saint Clements and their Successors for the time being and every of them As Also the Inhabitants and parishioners of the said parish of Saint Clements which now are or hereafter shall be off from and against all and all manner of Costs Charges Damages and Expenses of what Nature or kind soever which shall or may at any time or times hereafter happen grow or be imposed on them or any or either of them, for or by Reason or Means of the Birth Maintenance Education and bringing up of such illegitimate Child or Children already born or hereafter to be born in the said poorhouse belonging to the said parish of St. Marys and lying within the said parish of Saint Clements aforesaid And of & from and against all and all manner of Actions Suits Troubles Charges Damages and Demands of what Nature or kind soever Touching or concerning the same Then the above Obligation to be void otherwise to be and Remain in full force and virtue.
