KNOW all men by these presents that we ALEXANDER JAMES Sadler and Iron Monger, and THOMAS MILLS Merchant both of the Town of Falmouth in the County of Cornwall are held and firmly Bound to JOHN THOMAS Esquire and JOHN TRESISE Churchwardens of the Parish Church of St. Clements in the said County of Cornwall , and NICHOLAS TRAHER and SAMUEL GATTY Overseers of the Poor of the said parish in the sum of One Hundred pounds of Good and Lawfull Money of Great Britain to be paid to them the said JOHN THOMAS, JOHN TRESISE, NICHOLAS TRAHER and SAMUEL GATTY and their Successors for the time being To which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and each of us, our and each of our Heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by these presents Sealed with our Seals, Dated this first day of October in the Sixteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth, and in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred and forty Two.

The Condition of this obligation is such, That Whereas PATIENCE WATTS of St. Clements aforesaid Singlewoman hath of late been delivered of a female Bastard Child within the said Parish of St. Clements, of which Child the above Bounden ALEXANDER JAMES according to law, stands charged to be the reputed Father, If therefore the said ALEXANDER JAMES and THOMAS MILLS or either of them, their or any of their Heirs, Executors, Administrators or Assigns, do from time to time, and at all times hereafter, clearly and fully acquit, discharge and save harmless, as well the above named JOHN THOMAS, JOHN TRESISE, NICHOLAS TRAHER and SAMUEL GATTY, the Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the parish of St. Clements aforesaid, and their Successors for the time being, as also all other the Inhabitants and Parishioners of the said parish, which now or hereafter shall be (for the time being) and every of them of and from all, and all manner of Costs, Charges, Troubles & Incumbrances whatsoever for or by reason of the Birth, Education, Maintenance, Nourishing and bringing up of the said Child, and of and from all other Actions, Suits, Charges, troubles and demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same, that then this present obligation to be void and of none effect, or else to remain in full force.
